- By deansami [gb] Date 18.05.09 13:13 UTC
my boy lost his virginity on friday, he is castrated but he still tied with one of my girls, i know that its the bulbous gland that ties to the girl, what i didnt know was wether they still have thier bulbous gland with being castrated, im interested to know what might happen next? and has anyone ever had this happen and is it at all possible to still produce in any way, im sorry if i sound dumb i probably would have laughed at this question being put to me,

thanks sami

As you've found out, a castrated dog is still capable of mating and tying with a willing bitch - the operation only removes the testicles, nothing else. When was he castrated? If more than 6 months ago then it's very unlikely that any pregnancy will result.

thanks, i just hope its right, i dont need any more puppys, done it last year with her and gained lots of experience but very unfortunately lost lots of money, it was fun when it was good but poor girl nearly lost her life, and a very busy time.

All my neutered dogs mate and tie -it's a nuisance to have to keep them away from in season bitches as well as the entire dog. (As if they tie unsupervised, you don't know what accidents may happen if one or both decide to move.) The only difference I see in any of my neutered dogs is that they cannot produce pups, otherwise they are exactly the same as entire males. Doesn't matter what age were done either, my crossbreed who was neutered very early still mates and ties.

Are neutered dogs still as persitant as an entire male ?  With the howling and the whole entire male routine , hope not as my lad is being done soon and i could not cope with it if he was like he was when my bitch came in season ( she even went to live with my good Pal when she came in season and he was still mating the air while sat on his rump and howling and pacing It was painful to watch the poor guy, Not even my spayed bitch could console him  ...)Was hoping he would not have to go through all that after he was neutered ....(ie seperation and longing)
