Hi
Our RR pup is 9 weeks old and this morning she had a quite bad case of the runs.
I haven't fed her yet and she has gone back to her cage and grumbles occasionally.
Could we get some advice please as to what is the best thing to do for her?
Thanks guys
She's going to the vet now. Booked for 10:40 this morning.

Good Andy, better be safe than sorry!
Denese
They're keeping her in.
Sedate her to x-ray and also a drip to rehydrate her.
They think there may be something in her intestine. Not sure what as the only time she is left alone is when she is caged.
To say I'm worried is an understatement!

Let us know what happens.
Did they feel the pups tummy and find something unusual? least their doing everything to find out whats going on and will soon sort the problem out. try not to worry too much, you've done the right thing and the pups being well looked after.
He felt her tummy for about 10 minutes.
Said he could feel something disc shaped in her intestine.
No idea what it could be. I hope it's nothing and the diarrhea is just from the bit of bacon we put in her food last night.

She hasn't helped herself to one of your toddler's toys as she ?
Everything crossed here for a good outcome
I don't think so.
We try and put everything away before she comes into the lounge.
I can only think that she's got hold of something whilst our backs have been turned for a second or it may be a piece of bone.
Oh Dear, sorry to her your news but she is in the best possible place.
I was going to offer some suggestions as i had a poorly puppy but it sounds to me as if your vet suspects a foreign body or blockage.
let us know how it goes, fingers crossed for you.

Vet says he can't see anything on the x-ray.
Think it may have been a lymphoid (sp?) he was feeling.
Says it's probably just a tummy bug.
We can get her at 5:30pm today and it'll cost about £200!!!!!!
So glad we're getting her back in one piece, can't wait :)

thank goodness for insurance.. Hope all is well.
Could your vet not tell the difference?? Sounds like an expensive mistake.
At least all is well now and hopefully the bug will right itself. It sounds a lot but £200 is nothing to have your gorgeous pup back in one piece :-)
I am so glad to have her back but quite annoyed that I've paid £200 for an x-ray that wasn't needed in the end.
I'd do anything to have her made right but £200 is a lot of money to me at the moment. Would have gladly paid it if they'd found a problem :)
Don't know if I should claim on insurance?
Got the kennel club six weeks free at the moment.
Is it worth it or will my premium go up?
Also, will I have to stick with them if I claim?
Thanks guys

I dont think the kc will pay up as they dont pay out for illness, accidents only and as nothing was found i think its going to be an expensive mistake.
Louise
PS if you do claim even if they pay out or not, any stomach problems, dietery or anything remotely related they will say was a pre-existing condition and not pay out. So i would recommend covering the bill yourself dont mention it and go with petplan insurance company or similar.

If you are entitled to make a claim you really should - after all that is what it's for. I'm not sure what Louise is referring to when she says you can't claim as this would be highly unusual but I'm not familiar with the type of free cover provided. Have a good read of the terms to be sure
If you were to continue this insurance there should be no issue with pre existing conditions and the claim should not affect your premiums
If you wish to look at other insurance companies then do not be tempted to lie; you have to make a statement about pre existing conditions
every time you make a claim. The vet also has to complete a similar statement when submitting the claim and you know that they will not lie on your behalf. Were you to make a claim in future that
appeared to be related to this episode then your vet can send a covering letter to clarify. If this is a genuine one off situation, then you have no need to fear a pre existing condition exclusion - you won't need to claim again anyway :)
With regards to the x-ray I think that from your perspective it's better to be safe than sorry, particularly with such a young puppy. If the vet hadn't investigated further and it turned out to be foreign object then you would be annoyed they didn't take all reasonable precautions.
Glad your pup is safely home with you now
Hi
Thanks for all the replies.
With regard to the x-ray, I'm glad the vet did everything he could, it's just one of those annoyances that it cost money for nothing in the end but I'm glad he made sure it was nothing.
I hope you know what I mean!
Bumble is back home now and she seems a lot more like herself today.
I think it was just a bit of upset tummy so we'll keep feeding her a bland diet for a couple of days and then switch her back gradually.
Thanks again for all the replies.

Also with many insurances they cover all conditions for life and there is an exclusion in the free KC insurance part, but think its up to 14days from getting the pup, so after that you can claim.
If you decide to claim and she gets further problems later on in life then you should be able to claim again, different illness etc or could be seen further claim on existing condition, but as i said go for an insurance which covers all conditions for life.
I have KC insurance for my new pup and its all illnesses for life, also accidents can be covered depending on what it is.
Turns out to be a reaction to the vaccinations as it has happened again only worse.
She has been at the vets overnight on a drip, had anti-sickness jab and is having some paste to try and firm up the poo.
Should get her back today (fingers crossed).
How long is it after the second jab she can go out properly?
>How long is it after the second jab she can go out properly?
2 weeks is the recommended time; some people go out sooner, but if she's been off-colour then I'd be more particular.
Make sure your vet reports it as an adverse vaccine reaction.
