Hi, I've got 6 day old pups, all but 2 are big greedy things and all are growing and feeding well. One of the larger pups I've noticed is sounding a bit snuffly. The pup is feeding well and certainly growing, but I noticed it yesterday, and its definitely there this morning. I can't see any discharge from nose, and the pup is noisy as the rest and moving and feeding well.

Should I be rushing this pup to the vet, or is it something that should be ok to speak to the vet tomorrow. I'm thinking about asking the vet to do a home visit maybe tomorrow to check all is well with the litter, they'll be 7 days old by then. We've already lost one little pup after 3 days, I don't want to risk losing another, especially if there is something I can do to prevent it.

Your advice would be welcomed

I would say ring the vets, they will probably prescribe antibitotics as a prophylactic so that it doesnt have the chance to turn into something nasty. They should have someone that you can speak to today. If you are worried it will be worth it for the peace of mind!

I found this on the internet I dont know how much help it will be!

Puppies like humans and most animals are susceptible to colds and flues. If a puppy's cold is not well treated it can develop into more serious things like pneumonia, bronchitis, pulmonary congestion or asthma. One of the clearest signs that your puppy is suffering from a cold is if it is continuously licking and cleaning its nose with its tongue. Normally bronchial infections are a result of an infection in the respiratory system, infectious disease, pneumonia or a prolonged exposure to the cold, not being dried off properly or being exposed to currents of cold air. Bronchial infection can also result when the puppy inhales irritating powder or smoke. If your puppy is sick the accompanying symptoms are often, fast shallow breathing, an elevated body temperature, lose of appetite and excessive nasal secretion. If your puppy is sick, you must keep it from getting chilled and especially keep its chest warm. Consult your puppy's veterinarian as soon as you puppy gets sick or beings coughing.

Thanks for the advice, I think I might just call the emergency vet just to check. When I weigh them all later this morning, I'll give this pup a thorough check. I noticed a whistling kind of noise when it was asleep first, then more snuffly when feeding. What's funny is that it's one of the biggest pups, is feeding well and isn't showing any real signs of illness. I've put an old fleece jumper in the pen which they are toasty warm under inbetween feeds.

I've just had a chat with my husband (he's been in bed all night lucky man!) and we'll get the vet to do a home visit tomorrow just to thoroughly check all pups and mum.

I must say have hated dealing with losses, but the pups are so very beautiful and are developing in front of our eyes... it's an amazing experience and the fun hasn't even started yet!!!!!!

What did the vet say? Is the little one ok?
