Went to SKC today with a friend (she was driving). We finished in the ring and headed out to the car park. Unlocked the car and the alarm went off in the car next to us. We didn't think anything of it and loaded up the car (3 people and 5 dogs :-) ) Friend turned the ignition - nothing  It was turning, but not catching. We called out the recovery people. They couldn't find the problem. We came up with the idea that it might have been the immobilizer. So, the recovery guy took us out of the car park and down the road a bit, just to see if there was any interference, but no. Unfortunately he couldn't bring us home, so we had to wait for a 2nd recovery vehicle. What a lovely couple of guys these were. Even though they were from different firms they were friendly and more importantly they were dog people :-D Once home my friend and her OH were trying to move the car they decided to try it once more. Guess what? IT STARTED FIRST TIME  ;-)

So, if you were at SKC, and your car wouldn't start, check the immobilizer :-) , but move well away from the area you are parked in, if you can :-D

I had the very same problem with a ford explorer  it happened on a regular basis , ford also said that it could be radio waves interfering with it . from police fire etc radios  in the end they said they could disconnect it at a cost of £400 needles s to say , i parted with it and got another vehicle

I have occasional immobilizer problems with my peugeot if I wait too long between unlocking the door and starting the engine it kicks in and I've got to re-lock the door then wait 30 minutes for it to reset before trying again.

We tried that :-D We can only think that the fact that the other cars alarm went off did something. By the time we got home the blasted thing had reset itself.

Note to self: Don't buy a car with an immobilizer ;-)
