I've read on here several people talking about listening to puppies with a stethoscope - but it seems that this is with larger breeds.
Is this possible with a smaller breed and from roughly what day of pregnancy.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

I think I was one of the last ones to post about steths and it was to listen to Cavaliers....very successfully.
Unfortunately I knew when one had died as it's heart slowed and a few hours later stopped, both others were strong and regular and the result was 2 live 1 dead.
I can usually hear from week 7-8 or should I say my husband is really good at finding them and counting numbers.

didnt listen whilst my girl was pregnant but after giving birth to her pups, had a listen then and could hear a really fast heart beat which was, of course, yet another pup. This doesnt always tell you if there are no pups though as sometimes the position of the puppy means you cant hear its heartbeat clearly.

You know Tooolz, I had the very same. I had a slower funny heart beat and had a dead puppy. I just knew I would have one.
Quite interesting really doing it, not for puppy counting but just how fasinating nature is.. :-)

Hi becki,
I actually bought a doppler off ebay to listen in to their heartbeats, and I have to say it is amazing! I have listened with the stethoscope as well but I found them much earlier/easier with the doppler! I dont know about smaller breeds but I would have thought that there is less space for them to hide IYKWIM.

Just had a look on ebay , is it the Angelsounds fetal doppler that you have ? I was thinking of getting a stethoscope but might get this instead , which do you think would be best on a tiny toy breed ?
I actually bought one called a BF500+ that is suppose to give you a digital read out of the heart rate ( that bit doesnt work as well!) off ebay. I put in a best offer of £75 which was £10 below the buy it now price and got it. I dont know the angelsounds one, but as long as it is suitable for use on humans from 10/12 weeks it should be ok, I would guess that it would be better on a toy breed as there is less of mum between them and the probe! I have to say make sure that you can plug headphones in as my girl hates the sound of it!! I on the other hand love the sound of their little hearts pounding away! :)
