Topic Dog Boards / Showing / So, we're doing the Munster Circuit.........................
- By DawnR Date 12.05.09 20:10 UTC
Not sure if I have gone ENTIRELY crazy, but I just booked a cottage for August, with the intention of doing the circuit.

Been out there only once and loved it, although was utterly shattered.

Any tips, stories, ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated............................

We have booked a cottage too.... :-) A big group of us is going this time...
We have camped every other year we have been, but after the atrocious weather last year, the tent is not moving from the loft !!
So, first and foremost..... wellies are a must !!!

Just have fun :) we ve been on the circuit many a time and have loved every minute of it , wellies yes take , and as its not benched and outside take a  3 sided tent for your dogs incase it rains or maybe .. too hot  :)  They have no wet weather facilities so your out in rain or shine ... still have fun though :)

Hi Fiona,

Seeing as you have done it before :-) I have asked a couple times on here over the years for someone to break down the ins and outs, IE what you have to do to show the dogs over there , where the show locations are approx. Anything that would help people who have not done it :-)

Hi, i did the munster circuit for the first time last year and had a ball, apart from the weather though.
I got a house in killarney and i would def recommend to get a house there or near enough and its fairly central to everything and Killarney is a lovely town with plenty going on.

The circuit officially starts on the sunday in Clonmel, Tipperary so a lot of people only go down to killarney after the clonmel show as its a lot of driving to go down to killarney on sat and back to clonmel on sunday to back to killarney again.

Depending on what breeds you have, on the day before Clonmel theres a group show, Navan Show, Groups 1,2 and 5 which is actually a crufts qualifier for us too, and that show is on in Cloghran.

The Killarney show is on the Tuesday, then Limerick is on the thurs and it finishes off with Tralee show on the saturday.
If you base yourself in Killarney then, the killarney show is very close, its right in the town, Tralee i less than an hour away and i think Limerick was about an hour and a half i think.

Just booked our house too. This will be my 3rd time and even the torrential rain of last year hasn't put me off. Must now get my puppy registered with the IKC or i'll be going dogless!!! It truly is a fantastic week, but i'd definately recommend taking lots of waterproof items!!Fingers crossed for some good weather this year!

Blue, You need to register with the IKC.  I downloaded the forms from the IKC and sent off.  I had to send a copy of the UK KC registration paper and also a copy of the microchip paperwork.

I think it was about £15, took a few weeks for the IKC certificate to come through.

Then you are good to go!  Entries are similar to our.  I use the show dogs ireland website (google it).

This year it starts on Sat 15th Aug (if you do the Dublin Show) or Sun 16th in Clonmel.  This could be different for other breeds - not entirely sure.  Then there are shows tues, thurs and sat ending in Tralee (I think??).

All others.....

Ooh, I am getting quite excited now.  Def taking wellies and a rain mac.  Good idea about the 3 sided tent too.

We'll have to keep in touch and let each other know how we get on.   Good luck to all and here's to some good weather......

Not that i'm planning on going across, but when there is an endorsement on the pedigree for exporting does that mean i can't register with the IKC? Would i need to get breeders to lift this should i decide to show there next year?

No you can still reg. your dog with the IKC, the endorsement will also be put on the reg.
