Topic Dog Boards / General / breeder blocking

just wanted to find out more on this subject.
Do any of you "block" your puppys? ie no breeding or showwing from them?
- By Briarlow [gb] Date 20.11.02 18:48 UTC
Not so much showing but from breeding and exporting. Before I take the block off they have to have their eyes tested, I like to see the dog to make sure that it is suitable to be bred from and they are not allowed to be bred from until the bitches are at least 2 yrs. old.

The breeder should always advise the buyer of this before they sell them.

You use3d to be able to block (endorse) not for show, progeny not for registration , and not eligible for export pedigree. The KC only changed it a few years ago, and only allow the latter two.

I have sold all the pups I have ever bred this way, and have to remember to lift it from my own.

I have just removed these restrictions from four of my pups. My own bitch (aged 3), a four year old male, and two 2 1/2 year old sisters who are all going to be bred from for the first time, but only once they had their hips and eyes tested with good results

I always put both export and progeny not eligible for registration restrictions,on all my pups.

I can always lift these restrictions later if feel that the owner is breeding for the right reasons and that the dog is of a suitable quality to breed on from.

You must make sure though that the new owner signs to the effect that they have been told about the restrictions when they purchase the pup, otherwise the KC will not uphold the restriction.

it certainly seems like a good idea.Makes any one that is buying a pup to make a"quick buck" think twice any way!
How many litters can a bitch have ? i herd it was just two,i know this is wrong, but is there a restriction on how many litters any one bitch can produce?

Don't think you can stop someone showing except by not registering the pup or not handing over ownership. Can you? Ja:)kie

No, if they have the registration they can show.

The KC will no allow no more than 6 litters in a bitches lifetime. Many breed clubs stipulate a lower number in their Codes of ethics, in our breed it is no more than four litters. Most breeders will take 2 or 3 litters from a bitch, and usually only four if the litters have been small.

I always endorse mine "Not for export" unless I am selling abroad - which I haven't done now for years as its too much of a worry. They can still be exported but not registered in their new country unless the restriction is lifted.
