Hi, just wondering if anyone had come across this? my girl is day 61 today, no sign of labour, panting etc, but she has huge strings of drool coming from her mouth. She's not a drooling breed so its really strange for her. This is her third (and last) litter and shes never done it before. She is eating and drinking well although looking very sorry for herself. I did wonder as i was a midwife and know it can happen in people, if it was a type of adid reflux? She is HUGE this time although only scanned at 2 so not sure if that is right. Any help would be great. Thanks in anticipation

You could be right but I think I would share your thoughts with the vet for reassurance. It could be something else entirely coincidental to the pregnancy such as eating something she ought not to have.

Thanks for the reply. i rang him 1st thing and he was a stand in, he asked her breed and said they often drool but its not true people just think they do (you would have thought he would have known better) anyway you know your own dog and she doesn't. i have given her 50/50 of evaportated milk which she enjoyed and thought it might help if it is an acid problem. so now we have carnation slobber lol

No idea what could be causing it, other than being tired and peed off with being pregnant does she seem ok? I hope that she is and that everything goes ok. I am so used to slobber now, it was particularily delightful when I was mixing pilchards in with her food.......:0

yes she looks pretty pee'd off, i know the feeling! she's fine in herself, eating and drinking well. she has lots of milk in, its starting to drip out of her when she sits down. Hopefully won't be long now..................hummmm slobber and pilchards, a delightful combination

M dad has a CKCS and the only time he drools is when he gets stressed, maybe things are starting to happen.

another day, the drooling seems to have stopped for now, theres not alot else happening. she is a breed where you can't leave the pups with them incase they roll on them, so you have to put the babies with her every 2 hours so i guess i should be making the most of the peace now! matchsticks at the ready

Hi, its day 64 and my girl has been very restless all day, refusing food but has had a drink. she has just in the last 10 minutes started panting on and off so i'm hoping this might be the start of things. i know its silly but i hate night time labours, you always feel so alone OH is fantastic and stays all the time but reassurance would be greatly appriciated.....PLEASE

thanks i will, shes had a little walk around the kitchen but settles back in her basket quite happily

second pup wouldn't budge, took Molly to the vets at 7.45 and they gave her a C section, 10 pups later..............they are all doing ok although its early days i know. i've topped them up as molly won't be home until later as she is a short nosed breed they wanted to make sure her breathing was ok and she was speyed at the same time. I've never had a section on a dog before, any advice would be really appriciated..........sorry if the spelling is pants

aww congrats cant help with c sec but i hope mum recovers quicky and shes well :)

i had 2 c-sections on two different bitches, one was straight forward and the other was a disaster as we nearly lost our girl, she was also spayed at the same time too. Both girls coped absolutely fine afterwards and fed their babies fine with a good supply of milk so i havent had any problems arising from a c-section.

I hope your girl and her babies get on well too, good luck....you will be shattered with a whopper of a litter :)

Congratulations on your new arrivals. My girl had a c sect 6 weeks ago and did absolutely brilliant with them. I just made sure they were put on teats as soon as we got her home and she happily took to them with plenty of milk. Not a problem at all. Just remember to wipe around the scar daily. My girls teats became so heavy and big that she did tend to get a bit sweaty and moist in between so just a daily check to make sure the scar was ok and a dab with cotton wool to dry up the sweaty parts did the job.

thanks for all your congrats and advice, it really is appreciated. Molly is doing well and only a little bit wobbly. I did wonder if she might get a bit sweaty on her scar so will keep it clean as you suggested Mel. Whilst i am thrilled with the pups i had sort of hoped for a smaller litter as she just seems to freak out with so many babies (she had 9 before and did the same then) its almost as if she doesn't know which way to move. I don't know if i did right then or if i am now, but i put three with her at feed time which she copes with really well (alternating the three) this seems to keep her happy and the babies as well at least they are getting some milk from mom. I'm lucky that i am able to tube feed, i always live in fear of drowning them with a bottle. we have 7 boys and 2 girls and they are all gorgeous but i'm biased!!

pleased to see your girl is doing ok.....You will have a hard few weeks ahead of you, my bitch recently had 10 pups (and did an absolutely fantastic job!) I didn't have to feed any and I am shattered lol... Congratulations X

Congratulations on your litter -my girl recently had a litter of 11 they are now 18 days old and doing well!  I'm sure you girl will appreciated you putting three on at a time mine was a little upset at first when all 11 started to feed she did panic a bit but soon got over it.

thank you for your support it means alot, it really does. Molly has just one baby with her now as i only just caught the other two from being flattened under her. i constantly watch them as they are only with her at feed time but then again it only takes a second i now know. so i'm alternating the one and hand rearing the rest. As i said i have had her speyed as she is a gorgeous dog but she is exceptionally dim and mothering doesn't come naturally at all, so i think it was the best thing to do. they are now 24hrs old and all put on weight so fingers crossed. ...........i've been trying to turn the telly over with the pc mouse for the last 10 minutes.........it doesn't work, funny that

I can understand why you might feel nervous about leaving them with her but I can't see the need to supplement feed them.  Can you not just put them back with her to feed or, indeed, anytime that you can spend watching over them.  Mothers milk is always best and it does need a continuing demand in order to stimulate production.

thank you Isabel for your concern. yes i do feel nervous about leaving them with her as she only had two with her on her first litter and managed to squash one whilst she stood up quickly. As she goes into a panic with more than one wew have on the vets advice tried to sedate her but this made matters worse. As an ex midwife i know that mothers milk is best and its also supply and demand but i cannot hold her down to make her feed them so all i can do is one at a time. If each one is with her for 15 minutes that is a rotation time of over 2 hours which i can't physically do 24 hours a day although of course i would if i could. so if anyone can suggest an alternative to supplement feeding then of course i would take any advice on board. i guess in these situations you know your bitch better than anyone and have to do what you feel is right for all concerned.

I appreciate you could not keep it up for 24 hours but during the day you are going to be with her anyway and perhaps just do the fast tube feeding during the night to be able to get some sleep.
