Please help, I'm really unsure of what to do. We brought home our archie last week at 9wks old. I was told be the breeder his stools were a little loose and because she had been feeding the litter, tripe + burns mini bits + goats milk twice a day and then burns moist lamb/rice & veg with mini bites twice a day, so all in all the pups were having 4 meals. When we collected the pup, she told us that the vet had advised to feed the pups on boiled chicken and rice to firm up their stools.

Having brought the pup home, I continued to feed him on the chicken + rice for 2 days, and then reverted to feed burns moist and mini bites and tripe. I spoke with the vet who advised to cut out the tripe totally as it is apparently too rich for their tummies, this was on tuesday. since then I have been feeding him the moist and the mini bites. But still the stools are loose. On advise from the breeder I didn't give his last meal last night and this morning to my delight his first poo of the day was quite firm. but again this evening he has loose stools.

He goes after each meal time (4). I have noticed sometimes he'll do a lot and others hardly anything. he is very playful but is trying to lick his bottom. not sure if this normal or related to the loose stools, sorry this is my first pup.

Hi, I have a 5mth basset and had the same problem. We had to cut out all the food the breader advised and have gone on to Hills science plan diet. We also has a problem after tripe..... Anyway to cut a long story short our poor Basset had worms despite being wormed at all the correct times, his poo's were loose for weeks. I would suggest you talk to vet, fortunately ours knew a lot about basset's and has advised us to disregard all diet advice from Breader as they also show dogs and the vet reckons the show dogs are all very overweight and not fed a healthy diet.

The last three days are the first time weve had normal solid poo's - miracle!

Hope your puppy is better soon, good luck.

Ps for our pup the bum licking was a sign of worms, sure it could also cover other ailmets as well

Think I will get him to the vets on monday. when I spoke with the breeder she the remaining pups of the litter were thriving and all doing good solid poos. thanks for your advice.
