Topic Dog Boards / Health / My Pup's adult teeth

Have all come through now - he's 5 months old.  However one of his baby teeth is still there, alongside the adult tooth, it's one of the canine teeth.  The puppy tooth is not at all loose, is not displaced and it isn't causing him a problem.  The two teeth sit adjacent to each other.  Should I take hime to the Vet to get it extracted or should I leave it until a problem occurs?

If it's not out by 6 months it should be removed by the vet before it causes problems.

you can try giving raw bones to eat to help try and loosen it, the more intense gnawing helps.

I would certainly try raw chicken wings and/or raw bones every other day before considering a GA.

Cheers folks - will do the raw bones then, and if it hasn't come out by 6 months he can pop to see his Auntie Chris.

One of our dogs still had some retained baby teeth at 6 months, so I made an appointment at the vet's. Of course by the time we got there they had come out, but there was still a canine like yours. However, vet said it wasn't a baby tooth but an additional adult one! It was the same size as the other canine but just behind it - he had it removed at 7 months. He had one the other side too but it was wobbly and OH pulled it out !!!

hi Jacey, my rott pup had this and had his fangs still in place with the big ones.  the second one was hanging around too long but I used a tuggy with him and had a few intensive games with him to dislodge it as bones weren't hitting the spot.  Good luck.
