Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Day 61 - Stomach has dropped
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 04.05.09 09:41 UTC
Just wanting to share and get others experiences.
My bitch is on day 61 today with her first litter and I've been sleeping downstairs with her. I'm awake most of the night and she sleeps straight through.
Last night she had some stringy clear discharge with no odour and no off colour.
This morning she walked towards me and her stomach seemed to have disappeared. My first thought was she'd sneaked off while I was asleep and had the pups somewhere but we checked the house!!
The pups seem to have dropped down under her near to her every enlarging teat area. They are very active down there but she has here waistline and hips back, its very bizarre looking.
Temp is 37.2.

Oh and also her vulva seems more swollen this morning?!

sounds like she is getting ready, I would stay with her at this time and not be left alone....I would think her temp will drop a bit lower to around 36.5 and then usually within 24 hours. The discharge is very normal at this stage, my bitch lost samll amounts the whole of the last week. Is she still eating etc? puppies usually become very calm in the tummy just before their arrival. Their vulva does swell and is really soft and jelly like aswell so all sounds right. what has her average temp been? some don't drop as low as 36.5, but you do need a significant drop. My bitch went from mainly being 37.8 most of the week to 36.5, but she also gave us a false drop of 36.9 48 hours before she had them (day 60) keep us informed :-)
- By JeanSW Date 04.05.09 11:52 UTC
How exciting  :-)  All sounds absolutely normal and can I congratulate you on that soon to be zombie look  :-)

I love it when we get puppy news.  Keep us up to date.
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 04.05.09 12:15 UTC
She's eating fine, in fact anything she can get.
Her temp for the last week has been 37.7-37.5 but last night it fell to 37.1 then 37.2 this morning.
I've checked her vulva and it is soft, jelly like as you said so I'm guessing this is all as it should be :)
My OH is off work now for a few days so night shift is being shared between us.

Thanks everyone x x

yeah I would expect it to prob drop into the 36's don't worry about her still eating, my bitch only went off her food (still ate 3/4) the day before and then 2 hours before she had first pup just had a few mouthfuls. I know some bitches will still eat. Just keep an eye on her and good luck.... :-)
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 04.05.09 18:47 UTC
Well we've had panting then it stopped. She's been trying to get to her rear end to clean but can't quite reach lol
Now she's just pacing around not knowing what do to with herself.
No change in temp yet though.
- By ANNM172 [gb] Date 05.05.09 15:36 UTC
Good luck x
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 05.05.09 16:19 UTC
Thanks ANNM172.
We've had lots of licking round her rear end. But she is struggling to reach bless her.
Temp is still high at 37.4 at 4pm
Pups are not so active today, in fact not seen any movement since this morning.
- By Zajak [gb] Date 05.05.09 17:03 UTC
Good luck, not long now!
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 05.05.09 19:55 UTC
Ohhh any news at all yet? I love new born pups:)
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 05.05.09 20:05 UTC
Nothing yet.
She's been pacing all day but has been asleep for the last few hours.
- By JeanSW Date 05.05.09 21:45 UTC
Not going to get much sleep tonight then?  :-)
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 06.05.09 08:28 UTC
Still nothing! She slept all through the night.
Her temp this morning is 37.0. She's not eaten this morning and when she had a treat she struggled to swallow it.
Its 63 days today from first mating and 61 from second. Now I'm getting paranoid about her dates just in case I'm ahead of myself.

All she wants to do is sleep!!!
- By lillymum [gb] Date 06.05.09 08:43 UTC
if shes sleeping sounds like shes getting close

could start scratching later (nesting)

good luck

my girl went to day 63 from 1st mating and had 2 pups now 8 weeks old
- By Emz77 [gb] Date 06.05.09 12:39 UTC
yeah I agree with the sleeping thing it is like the calm before the storm!! I should think you will have pups by this time tomorrow :-)
- By welshlassy [gb] Date 06.05.09 16:23 UTC
nothing like wishful thinking eh LOL
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 06.05.09 19:30 UTC
Any news yet??
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 07.05.09 07:02 UTC
Absolutely nothing!!!
Took her temp at 2am and it was 36.8
Temp is 36.6 this morning so I'm really hoping today is the today!!
- By Emz77 [gb] Date 07.05.09 07:20 UTC
that sounds more promising.....I'm sure it can take up to 24 hours from the temp drop. I know my own bitch went exactly 23 1/2 hours  nothing like keeping you waiting is there!! Good luck :-)
- By cheadlelass [gb] Date 07.05.09 08:54 UTC
Good luck! Hope that today is the day and mum and babies have an easy time. I bet you can't wait now!
- By lillymum [gb] Date 07.05.09 09:31 UTC
arr was hoping to have some news when i logged in :)

good luck bet it will be early hours of the morning when you want to sleep just like mine do :)
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 07.05.09 09:54 UTC
I wish I was more patient lol :)
She's been following me round for most of the morning. I've been cleaning the house (anyone would think I'm nesting)
She seems quite relaxed... not sure if thats good or bad.

Had a chat with OH and we gonna give her til tomorrow morning (due to her temp dropping) and if nothing I'll take her to the vets.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thanks everyone x x x
- By westhamexcile [gb] Date 07.05.09 13:12 UTC
I know how you feel ....... we had puppies 15 days ago  ..... she was 4 days late and I got in such a state I cleaned the oven four times!!!!! The owner of the stud dog suggested I go to her house and clean her oven!!!!!
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 07.05.09 15:54 UTC
Temp is 36.9 this afternoon. I've rang the vets and been through her temp changes over the last 48 hrs. He advised all seems to be as it should be and the birth is probably 'imminent'!
He only wants to see her if she is straining/pushing and nothing happens after an hour of that starting.

She has been cat-napping this afternoon then wakes up has a panting frenzy then goes back to sleep again.
- By lillymum [gb] Date 07.05.09 16:11 UTC
sounds like it may be tonight in the early hours
good luck and stay calm :)oh and plenty of coffee for you lol

Surely they've arrived by now??????  :-)
- By lillymum [gb] Date 08.05.09 08:05 UTC
anything yet  :)
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 08.05.09 10:07 UTC
The first one came at 12.20am this morning. Then nothing for 2 hrs no straining panting nothing.
Then at 2.30am she started again :) A grand total of 11 :) 6 boys 5 girls. The last one at 6.10am. One girl is very small and not suckling properly. We've all been to the vets and Ziva is doing just fine as is the other 10. Vet was concerned for this small one tho.
I now understand the zombie look meaning!!!

Mother sleeping now while babies suckling (well fighting over teats really lol)
- By Lisakom [gb] Date 08.05.09 10:59 UTC

Congratulations! 11 puppies, wow, I bet you are as pooped as mum is! I hope that the little one picks up, I am sure that you will pull out all the stops for her.
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 10.05.09 07:44 UTC
Mother and babies doing fine. She is doing everything right :)
Sadly little one died during the night but I hadn't managed to get much down her since she was born :(
Also sadly another one died in the night as well. It seemed ok at about 11pm then I fell sleep beside the whelping box and when I checked them at 1.30am it had died. it didnt show any signs before and was feeding ok ??? It was the second smallest tho.
- By mellc [gb] Date 10.05.09 09:45 UTC
i know i've not posted much on here but i'm really sorry to hear your sad news. I had 9 in a litter a few years ago and lost 2, the sad thing is it take alot of the pleasure out of the next few days as you are watching the others like a hawk and you are exhausted and everything seems 10 times worse in the night.
- By Shell26 [gb] Date 10.05.09 10:19 UTC
mellc its as if you've read my mind.
Thanks so much for your post. Its great to have people who understand and are with you.
