Being a novice to owning a dog, I wonder if you can help me please.  I've noticed over the last 2 days or so that Pip, our little JRT, has been licking herself on the very thin skin between her back legs (her tummy end, not under her tail).  This afternoon I was stroking her tummy and saw a red sore spot which is just where she's been licking.

She was due to have the Stronghold treatment 3 weeks ago, but I delayed as she's had very loose poos and the vets told me to hold fire until she's sorted again.  I used the Stronghold on her this morning.  Could it be that she's had fleas as I've noticed her scratching and now that she's had some Stronghold she'll be OK again?  Is there any cream I can put on to soothe her?

Thanks for the advice!

Have you had a look for fleas, if she's got white patches then you can usually see them if there's a few.
I would pop her to the vets for a check, you don't want her to break the skin and get it infected, as it may not be fleas.
Sure someone on here will recommend a cream you can use to help stop the itching.

Also, just a thought, is Pip walked in long grass at all?
Just that our girl often gets a little red patch on her tummy after walks in long grass, almost like a bit of an allergy.

Thanks for your advice everyone!  Pip is walked in long grass sometimes, so it could be that.  I've had a good look through her coat and there's no sign of fleas (since doing this I feel itchy - power of the mind!!!!)

I've ordered some Dermacton cream this evening; it looks excellent.  I'll keep you posted how it goes.

That just means that they aren't living on the dog, they can still jump on, bite her & jump back off.
My last dog suffered terribly if he got bitten by a flea, but he never had any flea dirt on him - sneaky little blighters. It's worth de-fleaing the home and any cats you have about.
