I planted some strawberry plants in hanging baskets a few weeks ago and they look a bit pathetic. I put 3 plants in each expecting them to fill out but it doesn't look like they will. I wondered if it would be ok to put a few busy lizzies in with them to make them look a bit prettier or would it make the fruit in-edible?
The probably will. Have you kept them well watered ? It will be ok to put something in the middle to bulk them out as they should start to trail but make sure you give them lots food as well. I have replanted a load of strawbugs that I had in a pot with holes if you know the ones I mean and they are doing so much better in the ground.
Hi! I've put strawberry plants in hanging baskets also (the semi-circle wall ones). It's taken a couple of months but finally they are looking good. I bought two plants and put one in each basket. They used to hang on the front of the house but there wasn't enough sun. Now they are round the back and have full sun. They need almost daily watering though as the basket drains quicker than a pot. This weekend I noticed they had buds on so I shall have flowers soon and eventually about a dozen strawberrys. I'd persevere with the strawberries alone for a bit longer tbh, before adding anything else.
Are you feeding them? I put mine in hanging baskets and feed with Miracle Grow and they always do really, really well. Had a bumper crop last year and ended up giving strawberries away to friends and family as we got sick of them after a while!
Hi, I do water regularly but I've only fed once when first planted about three weeks ago with miracle grow - how often do you feed? They do seem to be growing but not to there full potential I don't think.
i did strawberries in hanging baskets last year and the garden centre told me to only put one plant in each basket. i did take their advice and they wern't too bad, even got a few strawberries in the end.
