My Golden Retriever puppy is 5 months and has started dribbling. We met a dog once on a walk which was dribbling and I moved her straight away. The other thing it could be is that she seems to dribble when she needs to do a poo - sorry to say it but I think when she was younger she may have eated some when she went in the kitchen when I was out. Can anything be done about this please.

I think you will find that alot of golden retrivers dribble - its a breed thing, usually when there is food about, nothing you can do to stop it im afraid.

My GR dribbles a bit when food is around but it's not a lot in comparison to some breeds, just a few spots and definitely not great strings of drool :-)

I agree that it is a breed thing, but seems to vary greatly between individuals. My friend has a young male who is affectionately known as slobber chops as he is the most slobbery dog I have ever known, whereas my girl hardly dribbles at all. With regard to eating poo, this is known as Coprophagia. There is a recent topic under the feeding section entitled Change of Food to Stop Poo Eating, which might prove helpful.

Thank you all for your help. We have had 3 golden retrievers and none of them have dribbled so this is new to us!
