I'm after some advice please.  Pip, our JRT, has suffered with colitis and various infections in her gut.  She is (fingers crossed) OK now, but it's been suggested to me that slippery elm would be a good idea to add to her food.  Where do you get it from and how much would I give her?  She's 7kg.

Many thanks!

Hi I think it was Teru suggested it on another thread (she's away sunning it up on the beach right now)
But I'm pretty sure (99%) that she ises the same one as me which is: Dorwest herbs  Fab stuff :)

note: slippery elm is also know as 'tree barks powder' :)

Dorwest are great and will answer any queries or questions hope this helps :)
Just check there are no contra-indications for your dog.

I buy Slippery Elm capsules from Holland & Barrett and just open them and sprinkle over the food when necessary. For a dog that size I'd use a full capsule. I use it on everything from kittens to large dogs when needed. :)

Ooooh that's an idea, how much are they from H&B out of interest Marianne?
(Sometimes they have quite good discounts in there..)

Thanks for the shops I can get them from!  Do you just use them if the dog has a funny tummy, or can you use it long term?

She's doing a very good job of keeping in touch as she has posted on here today, unless you mean her local beach??
Just wondered HG if she was spending her time on her vacation online with us rather than relaxing under a palm tree with a cocktail, sexy man rubbing in her sunscreen and the baking sun beeming down(ooh sounds ideal that does)

I get mine from Dorwest too, and use a sprinkle daily on food.  Less than quarter teaspoon for Yorkies and Chi's.  Long term isn't a problem.

Just wanted to thank you all for your help and let you know I've ordered some from Dorwest this afternoon.  :-)

Dorwest or Hilton Herbs, both do the powder and the latter also do capsules.

The powder came from Dorwest yesterday morning; so I'm very pleased with their customer service.  I've been adding it to her food twice a day and she's eating it as I mix it in very well.  I called Dorwest and they recommend I use it for 2 weeks or so, and then as and when needed but there's no problem with long term if required.

Have used this with great results for my dog, I mix it into a paste with natural yogurt in the mornings for him to eat,use it for about 5 days if we have a flare up,which has not happened for the last 5 months instead of antibiotics from the vet's so can't praise it enough but I did have it in my cupboard for weeks before I plucked up courage to use it
