Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Special Beginners Stakes
- By jurious [gb] Date 30.04.09 07:59 UTC
I'm not sure whether or not my dog can enter a beginners stakes class - I'm hoping someone can clarify the rules for me. :)

I believe the rules state that these stakes can be entered by an exhibit, handler or owner who has not won a CC. I've personally never won a CC with any dog, and my dog certainly hasn't, but I own him in partnership with a breeder who has won CCs with her dogs. Does this mean my dog cannot enter a beginner's stakes class, or am I all right to enter him because neither myself or my dog have won any CCs?

Thanks!

Mmm, not sure about the partnership, you ok, your dog ok but other person in partnership (I would say no). Could anybody else confirm??

A no from me too - any conditions of a class will apply to all the owners.

Lily Mc is correct. All owners/breeders etc are considered. Frustrating I know, but that is the rule.

A no from me too.

All owners and all exibitors I'm afraid.
Not breeders obviously as you still can buy from the top breeder in the country and if the owner, the handler and of course the dog haven't won a CC then you're a special beginner.

I thought that might be the case.  Thanks for your help, everyone. :)

dose  that apply to the person handling in the ring, if they not the owner ?

Owner, handler and exhibit I'm afraid.

As it is a Special class you must look at the rules in the schedule as they may well differ from other shows. Our special beginners is open to any exhibit never having won a CC, res CC, ShCM or Junior Warrant, the owner or handler do not come into it.

I agree, one of our club shows is owner/handler/exhibit never having won CC/RCC/JW another of our club shows its never having won a first prize at a champ show !!

Think people sometimes do not realise that Special classes are special to the club or society staging the show. There are no set rules for special classes, the club or society will decide on what the rules for that class are.

Some shows will have several Special classes the most common are:
Special Veteran
Special Beginner
Special Yearling
and then you have the colour classes that are limited to one colour and pattern of colour:
Ruby
Tri
Long
Smooth, etc
also classes special to the group or society:
Special racing,
Special coursing
Special working
Special sighthound
Special scenthound, etc

Sometimes there are special memorial classes or classes only open to members or founder members

All of the above will have there own conditions for entry and may differ from show to show, so before entering it is important that you check in the schedule to see what the rules for the class at any particular show is. I.e. Special Coursing could be limited to Greyhound, Deerhound, Whippets or could include all or any breed.
