can someone please tell me if this colour, seen advertised, for a poodle is classed as a mismark or is it permissible?.............................Beautiful Black Tuxedo (white chests & paws) thanks.

Any poodle that isn't a solid colour is a mismark.

I'm sure it would be gorgeous but definitely a mismark.

What about poodles that are black with tan points?

That's called a Phantom and is still not permissable (yet, who is to say what the future holds) :-) Like the labradoodle trend, there are now several people offering them at inflated prices. Mismarks and phantoms do crop up in solid lines naturally but should be sold at the same if not a lesser price than it's solid littermates.

As JG said , any poodle that is not a solid colour is a mis-mark . How many times do we need to say it ?
Tuxedo , phantom these are all names which people call mis-marked poodles so that they can charge more . And i am sure that they are lovely dogs but i would want to know that it was health tested and the sire/dam had an excellent temperament , just like any dog i was buying whether pedigree or not .
Now i will get off my soap box and go for a lie down !
I totally agree with all the posts on here that these are what were known originally as mis mark, They are indeed very attractive to look at but should not be sold at such inflated prices when they are not in fact bred like that intentionally. I myself have 2 dark apricot poodles that were bred that colour on purpose by the breeder by using a red poodle and a white poodle whom I saw when i bought my two.
> How many times do we need to say it ?
As many as we need to until people understand that by paying more money for a mis mark dog is only playing into unscrupulous breeders hands who are breeding for cash not to improve the breed :-)

Absolutely Fred's Mum :-) It's one thing if they crop up naturally, and they do believe me, it's quite another if they are bred intentionally and advertised as "rare". They are very attractive I do agree, and my dogs carry the phantom gene from what I can see (their mum is a different shade where the tan points would be). They are attractive, I do agree, but that's no excuse to play into an unscrupulous breeder's hands. A well bred litter should all be the same/similar price and the parents should all have health certificates etc. As with all things there ARE good breeders out there, BUT no UK poodle club promotes or condones cross-breeding or breeding mismarks/phantoms. I would think that phantoms and mismarks will eventually be permitted but only because they are on the Continent and in the States. In the meantime though, as with all things, buyer beware :-)

just to say i have seen black and white ones called parti- colour and the breeder had health tested parents and breeds because she likes the colour, they are kc reg as mismarked i believe but were more expensive than solid colours

met two toys out few weeks ago, both from same litter, one looked ok as quite sharp edges to colours and definate black, the other........... :-( looked like a heinz with dirty white blending into various grey blotches. Diddent think it was wise to ask if they had both cost same :-)
Chris

There was a woman at crufts this yr with 2 black and white standards. Must say they did look very sriking but I'm no expert on poodles

Yes - my groomer mentioned them - they do have a website standard parti-poodles which says that they used to be in fashion in the 18th Century.
But I still think they are a mismatch
