Topic Dog Boards / Showing / kc rules question
- By newf3 [gb] Date 26.04.09 13:06 UTC
Right here goes.

If a dog won a CC and entered another champ show in post grad ( which closed two days after it won the CC ) should the person have informed the secterary of the show and been moved up to Limet?

Have been looking for the answer on the KC website all morning and cant find out.

No - class qualifications are taken up to a point stated in the schedule (7 days before entries close if memory serves) and once entry has been made within that timeframe it is fine.

Can i ask for those who enter champ shows in advance, if say a dog in PG then gets a CC and BOB how do they fair on this, will they have to contact the secretary to move into a different class or will they have to remain in PG as that is what they entered in advance??
- By Brainless [gb] Date 26.04.09 15:37 UTC
If they entered more than a week in advance then somethign woudl need to be done.  I don't know anyone who woudl enter more than a few days in advance as so much can change as it is between entries closign and the show date, with coats and condition etc.

With IKC you need to wait until  you get official confirmation of ch title before you can enter the dog in the class, they need to go in open. very annoying..

You would be surprised, I have had entries about 5 weeks before the entries closed & not from a novice exhibitor either.

Yes they would.
So if a dog entered in PG wins a CC at a show on 20th March & the entries are closing for a show on 28th March the qualifying date would be 21st march so it can't be entered in PG at the show whose entries are closing. (hope that makes sense) This would be the same as any class that is done on number of wins, so be aware.

Ok so most people in the show world tend to wait until the last moment to enter champ shows? Never knew this, i tend to as i forget about it and then panick at the last minute about entering.

They should, but it doesn't always happen. It isn't just for Champ shows either, it's for all shows.

Some people will enter the shows they want to go to when they get paid - not everyone will leave it until the last minute.  I tend to leave mine until the last minute as I have a double coated breed and show bitches as well as a male so coat loss and seasons can work against me so entering too far in advance would be even more risky.

If I had a different breed with a less finicky coat and only showed males or neutered bitches then I'd probably spread the costs better rather than have some months which break the bank (or at least give it a good thrashing :-p )

Exhibitors definitely need to keep an eye on awards as certain wins could make dogs ineligible for classes entered too early in advance :)

regards, Teri

i enter a good bit in advance, only so i can spread payments, keeps my finances in a better order! i may be lucky i show a young male who has a very short coat...no reasons to withdraw then!

Must admit i do this so some can be weeks in advance and some last minute, it's just easier for me.  Also i have to plan dog sitters well in advance (Mum takes time off work to come and look after the at home ones) so as soon as it's planned with her i tend to enter.

This is great advice for me - as mine are still young I enter as soon as I spot it - I will remember this - thanks

Could I just ask - does the same apply to open shows? I have entered a show in June and gone into maiden as I've never had a first at an open show. Entry form already gone off, entries close 22 May. So if this weekend I get a first at an open show (haha chance would be a fine thing!) presumably I'd need to phone the secretary and ask them to change me up to novice?

Life was so much simpler when we were in puppy LOL :)

Thanks,
Jo

Yes this applies to all shows, so if you won your way out of Maiden up until the week before the entries close for the show, you would need to contact the secretary.

I wonder how many people do not know this, although it is written in the schedules & they sign the entry form saying they abide by the rules & regulations

I certainly can understand the need to budget, but why not simply put the money for the entry aside when you get paid and then pay it close to entries closing?

You could even have a separate Bank account for show entries and transfer the money in when you have it,a nd then write the check/pay by card at the time entries close.  It is so easy to open accounts now and to run them on-line transferring funds where wanted etc.

The cheques do not always get banked as soon as secretaries receive them.
The treasurer pays in the cheques of my club & this may not be until just before the show.
I have noticed some cheques for shows I have entered have not cleared until after the show!!??
- By Brainless [gb] Date 28.04.09 07:39 UTC
Oh yes I have had cheques uncleared for months (not just shows) and is the reason I carefully balance my chequebook.

I use the kind with the transaction record and I will put a dot by the left side of each entry that has cleared, I then add up the uncleared stuff and deduct/add it to the balance to see if my balance and the banks tallies, if not I work back to see where I made a mistake with adding up.

I did actually years ago catch the Bank out at having charged a £1 more than I had written  cheque for.

It is not unusual for my bank balance to show hundreds of pounds more than I know is actually there because of uncleared payments.

Thats why at Gloucester show in the last couple of weeks before the show, we bank every other day,

I hate when you have written a cheque and dosent get banked for ages

Thats a good idea which i hadn't thought about and one which i've just put into practice after reading your post :-)

One draw back, you may realise how much you are spending on entries!!!! LOL
- By kayc [gb] Date 28.04.09 15:14 UTC
A friend of mine uses Postal Orders... this way her 'cash' is used and knows that she hasn't forgotton a cheque somewhere.. it costs her £1.50 per £10 (I think) and she began doing this when she forgot a couple of small £10(ish) cheques for open shows and got a whopping £70 bank charge .. for funds she forgot about..

must admit.. I did try it..but went back to cheques.. (I grudged the fee).. but for some.. it might work..
- By newf3 [gb] Date 28.04.09 16:11 UTC
i pay most by credit card ( for the points ) on-line but cheques for open shows.
As i show boys its not to much of a problem in wasted enerys.
Missed one or two but not because of the dogs.
- By saoirse [gb] Date 01.05.09 21:43 UTC
I only pay with postal orders so i dont see what i spend plus its paid for there and then

its the only way for me really
