Hi there,

Does anyone live anywhere nr Leigh/Astley/Wigan area ??  If so where can I walk dogs around there safely please?
I am going staying with a friend in astley for a few weeks and although i know there is some open ground at the bottom of the lane, it is frequented by Gypsy's , their dogs and also roaming guard dogs from neary industrial units.

I dont mind driving to somewhere nice, any ideas ?

If you get no other suggestions perhaps your chum has neighbours with a dog that might make some suggestions.

I was going to suggest Haigh Hall. Acres and acres of walks, some by the side of the canal.

Don't live in wigan anymore, but like others have said there is pennington flash and Haigh Hall

There is also The Beacon, which is on the skelmersdale side of wigan.  If you are up towards Chorley then Curden Valley is nice

If you wanted to pop her to the beach then you can walk at Formby with the dogs.

was up at formby a week ago.weather was glorious-what a place.guaranteed a parking space by the beach too because you pay £4 per car and they only let you in after one comes out which is never long.the sand dunes are lovely and a great big stretch of beach.my girl took a beeline to the see and was having a great time splahing about.there were lots(most)dogs off the lead and all behaving beautifully.i thought it was quite awkward to get to though even though my daughter was using a satnav.x

I've never tried this myself but near the Plank Lane area of leigh they have created a new carpark and there are walks along the canal, I think there is even a burger van there now.  It's near the canal swing bridge.  I've not used this area myself but when I drive past there are always plenty of cars there and people with dogs.  Also try the three sisters park which is in Orrell.  I've never put in web links before, but try this if it works that is!
