Dear All, I have a 2 year old Cross His Sire was a Dogue De Bordeaux and his mother was a Rottie X Bullmastiff. He is a fantastic dog (all 62kg of him) and very loving, but he has no confidence. We also have a Rottie, and another Dogue De Bordeaux who are fine, but he will not go near people when we are out walking (although he will sometimes apporach women), if my hubby and I raise our voices in an argument, he gets upset and clings to us, shaking. Out on walks he will not stand up to other dogs, he will run away if they show aggression, although he does, love those that don't show aggression and will often charge around the park with small, medium and large dogs having lots of fun. He is better with women than men, and I know that I have made the problem worse when he was little by fussing him if he was scared. I no longer do that and try to ignore this behaviour. I have raised all my dogs in the way the Dog Listener does. We have smacked but only when they have been VERY naughty and then only on the thigh, where it is very muscular (and not hard either) . My boy is a loving happy dog and a gentle giant, but I feel he is suffering through a lack of confidence and I am beginning to get stuck as to how to help him. You can see my boys at www.go5.com/sarah we also have a 12 week old pup Dogue De Bordeaux, they are all entire males and they have NEVER had a fight. We walk off the lead in the forest and do many hours of training and socialtization with them all.
PLease can you offer some practical advice ?

Hi Sarah,
My husband and I have a two year old GSD and are awaiting our new arrival, an Alaskan Malamute. My husband loves the Dogue De Bordeaux though so I guess that will be a breed which will have the pleasure of owning us in the future. (We are going to get sent to idle chat if we don't stop nattering).
Bye, Naomi.

You are not alone my 1 year old lab has no confidence with over dogs, after he was attack by a masstiff when he was 6 months. When a dog approaches him he runs away. Although he can be at ease if it is a labrador. Do you sugest that we should get a labrador compaion for him are your male being castrated
