my 3yr old boxers tail keeps leaking small amounts of blood, about 7inches from the base.shes not biting the area, theirs no fleas or allergies and no sores or flaking skin,it just weeps blood now and then.our vet hasnt got an explanation either so just wondered if anyone else has heard of this.it doesnt seem to hurt her and she still waggs her tail 100 miles an hour and theres no discomfort when you touch it.any advicce will  be greatly appreciated.

She is not wagging it so hard that she is hitting things like door posts etc,the reason I ask is because my Nephews Lurcher was doing the same thing, and kept injuring the tail.In the end she had to have a couple of inches amputated, she was fine after that.

i thought that until,it started when i was walking her on the lead.there was nothing to bang her tail on,she was just walking along wagging her tail as always, and it just started to bleed. the vet checked her over and theres no other injuries on her and he cant suggest anything (so he didnt charge) .hopefully it should stop on its own

Poor girl having four boxers (sadly last girl put to sleep last week) and yes we are getting another. re. your girls tail have you tried germolene New Skin we used it on one of ours that was docked but used to sit wagging his stump on the concrete and made it bleed and as you have seen the vet for injuries and infections this might help you only have to use a thin layer and is seals the site (it may sting a little so have a nice treat at hand) you can get the above in any major supermarket hope her tail heals ok

Whereabouts on her tail does it come from? Is it the upper surface or the lower surface? Dogs have a gland on the upper surface of their tail. several inches from the root, which secretes an oily substance - could the bleeding be connected with that?

By "base of her tail" do you mean the end tip of the tail or the part of the tail where it joins the body?
