Hi, My beagle puppy is now 11 weeks old and is a great pup.
He has however an annoying habbit of doing the toilet in the living room.
His cage is in the kitchen and will not do the toilet in the kitchen at all.
He gets taken out every half hour to do the toilet in the garden, but still does the
toilet in the livingroom. if i am in the kitchen with him and all the other doors are closed he will sit at the back door to get out, but if the living room door is open he will just do it there. As soon as we catch him doing the toilet we instantly take him outside, but it doesnt really make much difference. Will he grow out of this or is there something else i can try.
Thanks,
David.

Hi David ..at 11 weeks old your pup is still a baby and it can take many months with some pups before the penny actually drops :) If he has an accident anywhere he shouldn't , make sure you wash the area with a biological soap powder as this will not lay down any scent that he can associate with his pee.
Keep taking him out and make sure whilst you are out with him to say the appropriate words (I use HURRY UP! for a pee and BE QUICK! for the other) when he performs outside be lavish with your praise so that he knows that is what you want. When he has an accident inside simply take him outside and repeat the above steps. Try taking him out every 15 minutes or so for the next few weeks. If you can pre-empt the act rather than catching him at it you will see more progress
Once he twigs that performing outside gets a fuss and nice words he will start associating :)

Do you feed him in the kitchen, if so try feeding him in the sitting room where he pees. I know it can get you down but he is only a baby and will learn in the end. Always go with him into the garden and praise when he goes in the correct place, maybe a titbit, but ignore if he goes in the house, I don't mean don't clear it up but don't say anything to the pup. It is hard to understand but most puppies will find even being shouted at or smacked a reward. Don't accept peeing in the kitchen either if you see him take him outside. I know it seems as if it well never end but it will. Hang in there. Ja:)kie

What do you do when you take him outside? Is he encouraged to perform outside? DOes he get a reward for doing it outside rather than in the living room?

He is encouraged to do it outside and he gets rewards for going outside, but gets nothing when he goes inside. its strange that he will only go when he is in the livingroom and wont do a thing when he is in the kitchen. We take him outside roughly every half an hour, ive started putting his food bowl in the livingroom now to see if that makes any difference, hasn't yet but time will tell.
David.
