I'm thinking of changing to Arden Grange.  I have two FCR's who are 24 and 25kg.  Just looking at which type to get.  The normal chicken and rice or lamb and rice, say for all breeds of dog.  Then there's the large breed, only difference seems to be bigger biscuits and more expensive!  Anyone know of any reason I shouldn't feed the normal one?

I would imagine that your dogs aren't classed as large breed from a food perspective are they?  I always thought that classification was for heavier dogs.

I feed normal AG Lamb and Rice.  My Wirehaired Vizsla weighs app 26kg and he's on roughly 460g per day.  I've no idea where that fits on the recommended amounts but it suits him very well; he will be 2 in July and is very active.  My mongrel weighs app 13kg and at 6 yrs does not burn his food at the same rate.  He's on app 150g per day.  They both really like this food and I've always had good advice from AG - they can send taster bags if you want to try lamb and chicken to see what they like best.

I have found that [url=www.vetuk.co.uk]Vet UK [/url]is usually the cheapest online suppier and lamb is cheaper than chicken if cost is a concern.

Thanks, that's got me thinking now.  They are on Eukanuba Large Breed, which is for dogs around 25kg or more.  I've had no problems with it but AG is about £20 a bag cheaper, and seems a better food.  Looks like they may go through more AG though, mine are on about 250g Eukanuba a day, recommended about 220g a day.  AG  recommends about 330g a day, maybe more as yours seems to like more!

Blimey - that makes it look as though I'm over feeding him!  I promise I'm not :)

It is a good point though isn't it whether weight for weight they get the same value from the food?  We were previously on Nutro and I recall that I had to reduce the amounts when I went to AG.  I tried Challenge for a while but sadly mine hated it - although it comes highly recommended by others.  That one is def more 'dense' and I needed to reduce the weight per portion.

My WHV (yes - a bit gorgeous!) is on active dog portions to take into account his woo-hoo look at me, aren't I fast, legs on elastic exercise routine.  I always drop amounts slightly in the summer as they just don't seem to need as much.  Obviously sunbathing requires less calories :)

Do give AG a ring and ask for some free samples - you might get a better idea of volumes when you try it.  Feedem is another site with quite competitive prices

I have Flatcoats who do well on AG and I know several others who feed it as well - I personally feed the Lamb and Rice, but know some use the chicken and rice, its just personal preference. I cant see any reason to feed the large breed to an Adult, however it does tend to get used when they are pups.

Can i suggest that you call AG and ask them, i would myself use large breed for them, but thats me.

My friend works there and i think she's the one who normally answers these queries about food and what to feed certain breeds and for what performance etc..
She knows what ingredients are in each bag and the contents as well, She knows her job very well. They will send out trial packs as well, well they did do, not sure they are still doing this, so give them a call..They are very friendly and helpful there.

Just seen this thread as have been on hols.  We changed our 14 month old male golden retriever onto AG lamb and rice about six weeks ago from Royal Canin large breed as he didn't seem to like it that much (no probs on puppy and junior)  He loves this and one big change has been his poo, nowhere near as smelly as when he was on the RC.  A good "side effect"!  Hope it all goes well for you.

If this is Ness the vet nurse - yes she is really good and helpful - gave us very good advice for our GR to change over to lamb and rice.

Not sure what the delivery is but joining up with the breeders club with AG saves you a lot of money, maybe worth calling them to see if it works out cheaper than getting it online.
Breeders club is for those working, showing and breeding. You don't have to have any bitches either, so a huge plus with that. I joined and had 1 show dog and other dogs in the house..
Also if you live nearby they allow you to collect it and therefore saving any delivery charge..

Thanks,  unfortunately they wouldn't be any good for me as they need a signature on delivery.  I always seem to be out when delivery people come to me.
