I'm sure another of my concerns would be aiming the car properly. When I was 10 I watched the car in front of us run over only half a rabbit - it was horrible and not something I'd want to repeat in error.
Ágree, it's not that easy to aim for a small object (you can try it when driving, aim for something like a small branch and see if your tyre runs over it cleanly, or even at all).
In my view, if it can be guaranteed the rabbit was killed at once then that was probably the most humane and kind thing to do. If it was not killed at once by the car but the driver had to go back for a second or third attempt, that is then barbaric. Unfortunately, can we always know our aim will be true?
I'm not suggesting any answers by the way :) just trying to point out that running something over isn't always that simple!
I appreciate the fact that the person (sorry forgotten who it was now!) was trying to be humane though and in this particular situation probably was, as it seems the rabbit was killed at once.

as food for all the animals is expensive the zoo has a childrens pet area (most zoos do) rabbits were fed to the birds of prey, snakes etc still born calves from local farmers were fed to the Tigers, panthers etc .its a common thing to do...

I wondered if the animals were unwell though, as the myxi rabbit was unwell, or whether it is surplus animals (or both).
Hate using the word "surplus" but can't think of a better one just now.
no all the rabbits and guinea pigs are healthy or they wouldnt be used as food
surplus is the best word i can think of as well....
Ok thanks for the reply :)

I keep reptiles and breed 'feeder' animals for them and some of my friends birds and reptiles, it is common practise amongst herpetologists.
Like the dogs we want the best quality food we can for our reptiles, so they have a great life, excellent food and of course get to perform natural behaviours the only thing we DON'T do is allow the snake the natural behaviour of killing its dinner! I have no problem despatching an animal for food or to prevent futher suffering by the most humane method available to me at the time so fully support OP in their actions.
My cat brought a fledgling starling into the house 2 nights ago, its crys woke me up, she had broken the poor things wing almost completely off, I despatched it by breaking its neck, what would those of you who objected to OP's actions have done in the same situation?
I am longer going to comment on this as it becoming ridiculous. I havent got the time (or inclination) to have to back up and justify every single time i talk about MY OPINION. Just because it isnt what the majority think doesnt mean im not entitled to it. Its getting to the point where i feel afraid to add my comment as 'the clique' will pick it to pieces and cause an argument. No wonder so many posters have got sick of it and left the board. Jesus.

Please don't blasheme! That is totally uncalled for.
You are entitled to your opinion but so is everyone else. There is no clique. Look at all the posters that have taking an opposing opinion. There is very little to connect them on the other differing subjects we discuss. You have just found yourself in a very small minority that is all. If you have the courage of your convictions I do not see why that should bother you.
....i prove my point. Once again i have offended the masses...... Freedom of speech has gone too

Only in your choice of language not your opinion. We are all governed by the rules of decency when it comes to speech.
>Freedom of speech has gone too
I think you'll find that blasphemy has been offensive for centuries - that's why there are even laws against it. It's nothing new.
There is no clique. If you have the inclination, read previous threads. People who agree on this thread will disagree vehemently on others.

Hi Freds Mum
> I havent got the time (or inclination) to have to back up and justify every single time i talk about MY OPINION. Just because it isnt what the majority think doesnt mean im not entitled to it
you're equally entitled to hold and air your views, experiences and general opinions. FWIW I can genuinely understand your feelings on this - it makes my tummy heave to think of ever hurting a living creature and I can't bring myself to look at dead animals on the roads and motorways without getting upset. We had a house bunny for 9 years which was quite similarly coloured to many wild rabbits and if I see a dead rabbit I always think of her :(

Unfortunately
'the clique' reference is a misconception about this board. Most if not all long term members lock horns on a wide ranging number of topics but, when some share common ground on others, for some reason it is that alone which is drawn to attention in heated situations. It can feel at times like banging heads off walls (not just metaphorically - REALLY wanting to :-D ) and that's something I think we all have in common, albeit for different reasons and at different times.

:-D Norty Cuddles.

lol, that made me laugh (the mother and daughter thing)....
quote "People think we must be sisters, or related in some way, but they'd never believe we were mother and daughter,"
no deary, more like mother and drag queen son.... ! lol
On the original topic of this thread, I can only applaud ClaireyS for having the guts to do what she did. I was out with my two dogs a while back and saw a myxomatosis inflicted wild rabbit and had I had a hand free would have despatched it very quickly... much kinder than letting it run around in circles, fitting and suffering imo.
