continued from here

She is doing well in herself but bowels are bit erratic. Since she has been on fish, rice and chicken her 'poo' has been much firmer and at times she has struggled a bit to pass it. She seems to have some control but not all, but this could just be due to spinal discomfort after the op.
Today though she had diaorrhea outside twice but ever since it has just been 'oozing' out. i have had to put waterproofs under her. It could all be related to the after effects of op,immobility or whatever , even a bug, but her anus is now getting really sore. (like nappy rash causes). I have tried to apply sudocrem but where area is excoriated, the sudocrem will not actually stay. Any suggestions

Is she on antibiotics? If so that will affect her motions - it always makes Issy very, very loose.

If she's getting sore, and she'll let you, wash the area with cold honey and camomile tea. Use 6 teabags per 1/5 pint of water and let it cool down so it's just warm.

If it's possible soak a tea towel in the solution, so that it's wet but not dripping, and keep that applied to the area for a few hours - that will really help.

I always use this with Issy when she's got nappy rash or bad excema and it works really well, but I'm not sure how well it would work (if at all) with a dog.

Sue,
I know a friend of mine used to swear by eggwhite dabbed on for nappy rash, so I don't know if that would be any good. Glad she's well in herself I was thinking about her just this morning. Cooked pumpkin is meant to be good for loose bowels. Fingers still crossed

Hi Sue
Is she still on Rimadyl ? Sorry to sound paranoid but diarrhoea is listed as one of the side effects.

Yes Joyce she is, but the diaorrhea only really came today. She will finish the Rimadyl on Sunday and go to Vets Monday. In all other ways she is quite bright considering what she has been through.

Sue, could she be partly obstructed due to the earlier constipation and spinal problem? Its not likely if she had much diarrhoea, but might fit with the oozing. Given all the problems she's had, I think I'd ask the vet to see her.

I did wonder that too. I will give the vet a call and ask his advice. thanks

Don't know if it will help but *Metanium* is a fantastic nappy rash cream. :)
It's sort of light brown coloured and feels slightly gritty, it almost forms a skin-like layer over the nappy rash and is waterproof. Might be worth a try.

If you want to get Metanium you need to ask at the pharmacy counters in Boots - it doesn't sell very much these days so it's kept behind the counter, not on the shelves.

Have spoke to vet, he thinks it could be Rimadyl and has advised me to stop it ( again) we will see what tomorrow brings.

One of my boston's has a prolapsed rectum (gets pretty sore at times). I put baby origel on it if he is really sore. When he had the purse string op that is what my vet told me to do. I also use vaseline. It seems to help, rather than that he does fine. When he had the runs I stopped his medimuccile (sp) and gave him Keopectate (but that probable wouldn't be a good idea with yours). Hope she gets better. :)

Dime seems a bit better today. So far no more runs and bottom not so sore. Maybe it is Rimadyl. Thanks for help.:)

Happy to hear that Sue,
Anne :-)

Glad to hear that things are improving, Sue. Also glad that you have a vet who doesn't want to take any chances where Rimadyl is concerned.
