Just an update for anyone who's interested.  My pup has now had a fourth vaccination, titre test showed no change in parvo and distemper.  I decided to ditch the duramune and we are going for vanguard this time.  I don't know whether a change in vaccination will make a difference.  He did develop a bit of a temperature and a was very tired a couple of hours after so i'm taking this as a good sign that something is happening with his immune system.  We go back for a second vanguard and then another titre test.  The kennel club keep ringing me to extend the six weeks insurance.  I asked if the hundreds of pounds I'd spent was covered under their insurance.  Obviously they said no so I told them to stick it ! I'd have paid three months premiums by now.  That's enough to cover a set of bloods !

I've just come back from my vet after a third puppy vac   He had his two needles with duramune at 6 and 10 weeks.  My vet recommended a titre test as the first injection was so early and there could have been a conflict with the mother's immunity.  Boy am I glad I did.  Both his parvo and distemper and way lower than the recommended minimum of 40, at 20 and 14.  I'm hoping this third one will take and I will be titre testing again in another two weeks.  I wonder how many of the other owners have had this problem and blindly assume their dog is fully vaccinated when it isn't.  Had the vet not advised I would have simply assumed he was covered after that second injection.  It's interesting that some people say their dog got something even though "fully vaccinated" against it.  If one of my older dogs got parvo after puppy vacs and boosters I would maybe be looking at whether he was infact fully covered despite the yearly boosters.  If the vaccines haven't been taking all this time, they are as good as useless. We blindly vaccinate but don't think to test whether the vaccine has actually taken in our dog.  Also although not totally against homeopathic alternatives

Dogmatix, the reason your dog was not immune is that you had your dog vaccinated too young, the first vaccine cancelled out the maternal antibodies, this is the very reason, pups should not be vaccinated until 12 weeks of age, and I have this info from the mouth of a professor who specialises in diseases of dogs and vaccines from glasgow uni.  It is a crying shame that you have now had a 4th vaccination, you are just pumping chemicals into your dog needlessly and dangerously.  That is so worrying, I cannot believe your vet would do this :(

No the puppy has had 3 vaccines not 4.

My apologise Perry I should have refreshed my memory on the whole thread rather than just read the limited quotes in your reply.
However if the titre tests are showing insurfficient antibodies then are you suggesting that it is better to leave the pup unprotected. Unfortunately these diseases can be just as fatal and damaging as vaccine reactions can be.

No problem Satincollie, it is worth noting that a very low titre does mean that antibodies are present and if the system is challenged the titre levels can rise dramatically, so having a low titre reading does not necessarily mean a dog needs a booster, just that he or she hasn't been around the disease.  It would be interesting to have a titre reading done at a different time to see the difference in levels.
