Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Update - day 51 now

Hi all my girl is on day 51 now, and is beginning to look a bit fed up.  She is quite round now is still eating well and having a little walk everyday, I'm letting her do exactly what she wants to do.  I noticed that the last couple of days her eyes have looked a bit glassy and a bit red with a slight discharge.  Do you think she is getting stressed with the pregnancy or could it be something to be worried about, I don't want to take her to the vet and stress he out any more than necessary, she seems otherwise fairly relaxed.  Any ideas?

she is probably not gettng enough sleep due to feeling uncomfortable . Try and encourage her to rest.

She had a good night last night and is brighter today even tried to have a game with the others today - didn't last long though she huffed and puffed a bit and found a nice shady spot in the garden.  Not long now.

My bitch is about a week behind yours. She is noticeably rounder now and is running out of steam quicker than usual while out on walks. When I took her to the vet for her scan at 28 days, I jokingly said I hoped not to see them until after the puppies had been born. I don't want to risk any infection by taking her to the surgery, but a phone call to the vet if you are worried is probably the best thing initially.

I'm getting a little impatient to see the babies now... it has gone so quickly but excitement is growing in our house as I'm sure it is in yours. We're first time breeders so its going to be a very big day in our house when the pups arrive safe and sound.

Good luck with your puppies, I hope everything goes well.

Hi Itsadogslife
Ellie is enormous now, really feeling sorry for herself - only a week to go, I have split Ellie's meals into 4 as she is struggling to eat anything as she is so large.  She's finding it difficult to get comfortable and isn't getting much sleep now (just as I'm saying this I can see she is asleep beside me and dreaming).  Her eyes are still running a little but the vet didn't seem worried when I phoned, said it was probably just stress but to keep an eye on her.

I think I am fairly organised just need a couple more things and am very excited now and really want to see the babies, I haven't had a litter for 12 years so it's a bit like a first time for us as well.

Good luck with your girl Itsadogslife - keep us informed.
