who worm's their bitch while they are in whelp if so have you had any problems with the bitch or any problem with puppy's,

i have never worm my bitches while in whelp, all my dogs are regualy wormed every 1/4 of the year.

if i was going to mate my bitch she is wormed on the first day of her season then at the time the puppies are wormed 3,5,7 weeks old

I don't worm when they are in whelp, regular worming and then with puppies at their first worming. My vet always suggests worming towards the end of the whelp but I never have and not had any problems with worms at all.

I do exactly the same regime as you Terri.  I don't see the need if a bitch is wormed regularly for her to be wormed during pregnancy.

As I understand it, the pregnancy hormones trigger the release of the dormant encysted worms that otherwise are unaffected by routine worming. The bitch will therefore be passing worms to the pups, even if her gut was previously clear of worms.

I can't even remember the last time a pup had worms.  It's amazing how worming solutions have come on in even say the last 15 years.

I worm during pregnancy. I use Milbemax and do the bitch at about 4 weeks. Never had much of a worm burden with pups. This last litter I never saw one! I very rarely have any problems...in fact would go as far as to say have Never had a problem.
Most preperations are now safe for use in pregnancy and I see no reason not to as it all helps in the long term. I do worm regularly every 3 months as well. And the whole pack get done at the same time as any baby puppies as they all like to try to do thier bit in the puppy cleaning job!!

Although my dogs are regularly wormed, it's the pregnancy hormones that release worms, so it doesn't matter how clear a bitch is prior to mating.

I Panacur a bitch from day 42 - it is licensed for use on pregnant bitches.  Puppies are then born 98% worm free.  As indicated on the box, when I worm pups, the bitch is dosed again.  Although pups are dosed for 3 days, Mum just gets the normal adult dose on day one.  I have followed this regime for years, even on very tiny breeds.  Never, ever had a problem, and never seen a worm.

All pups have to do is thrive!  :-)

While I fully appreciate that someone is going to disagree, I won't change my methods when it works so successfully for me.

I also worm mum a week before mating, then not again until I worm the pups at 2,4,6 & 8 weeks, never had problems with worms or even seen a worm in pups or mum.

I have wormed now for 6 generations with never a problem with bitch or pups.

Pups never showed signs of worms when wormed themselves.
