Topic Dog Boards / Health / Dog allergic to cat?
- By shabee [gb] Date 20.04.09 09:14 UTC
Hi I have just got my Animals back after being away abroad for 6 months. They went to seperate homes. Before we went my dog was practically eating her paws.
Went to vet and got different treatments done like steroid injections. Also tried changing her food.  When she was away she never had this problem but now the dog and cat are
back together she has started again.
Any advice on this would be great, By the way I spent a fortune at the vets while they tried to figure out what was going on, and hope that there is something I could buy over the counter that may help.
Thanks so much
Sharon

That would be interesting to know if dogs can be allergic to cats, not heard of it. If this is the case i may pass this onto a friend who has a dog who is always scratching and has gone through the experiment process.
She has many cats so maybe just maybe there is something to this.

Good luck in finding out, i am very interested.

Don't see why not- I have heard dogs being alergic to people...

Hope you can figure out something for your dog- wishing you all the best...

One of mine is allergic to cats. The only reason I found out was because he had allergy tests done and that was one of the things that he had a reaction to.

I think my Weim may be allergic to cats. I had two cats when we lived in the UK and my pup's eyes were always red and a little droopy and she chewed her paws quite a lot. Since we moved to Aus (cats were re-homed with a friend of mine in the UK) Storm's eyes have been perfect and she never chews her paws. It could be attributed to many other things, however the pollen/dust count over here in Aus is so much higher so I am doubtful as to whether it was caused by that. My ex's Dad always blamed the cats for her red eyes.... maybe grumpy old boy was right...!

Thats strange, thats our story, we moved to Oz hated it and came back.

It was my friend who took Ellie my dog and we rehomed the cats. My friend offered us Ellie back which was really nice off her as I really missed my dog.

I rehomed 2 Cats. Star my ginger Tom went away out the road to a farm. BUT!  We came back bought a new house and low and behold the day after we moved in
we saw a ginger cat in our garden, it was Star, he had been trying to get home and had ran away from the farm last june!!!!.  This it really weird as we had moved to a different house in  a different area. But the area we are now in is on the way to the area we stayed in before.   How strange is that?
He knew me right away and was twisting roung my legs and was the same with Ellie.  He is now starting to come back and fore to the house but he has surely been wild for the last 8 months or so and is not happy about being kept in so I am letting him do as he wants.

What state did you move to? There is a guy at my park called Tao (sp) who had some friends move out, hate it and then leave! Would be funny if that was you!!

Cats are funny creatures.... they like to make their own decisions! I was heartbroken to rehome my girls but know that the flight and quarantine would have permanently damaged them as they were rescues and already a bit sensitive. They are now super happy living with their new family which is such a relief :-)

I hope you sort out the allergy problem soon!

I don't have to do anything as we don't have cats and he never comes in contact with them.
