Hi All

My westie started with the runs yesterday morning so i put him onto chicken and rice to try and firm his motion up but he has still got watery motion this morning after a day on chicken and rice any ideas what i can give him to firm his motion back up, he usually has JWB lamb and veg kibble with naturediet but have been having trouble with him eating the naturediet and am not sure whether its this causing him to have the runs as i have been having trouble with him scooting his bum a lot (i did post about this previously), would perhaps giving him just the JWB on its own be worth a try to firm him back up, i gave him chicken and rice again for  breakfast this morning cause not sure what else to give him, i thought chicken and rice settled them down?

I would have starved him for the day.  Chicken can cause some dogs to have the runs.  So if it were mine I would starve for a day and then start the chicken and rice.

White fish with rice cooked in the fish water is an alternative to chicken. I would also have starved him for 24 hours & made sure that he had plenty of boiled water with glucose & a pinch of salt. Then give very small portions of fish & rice several times a day to ease him back into eating & I would also give live natural yoghurt on a daily basis once his motions are firm again

He does have yoghurt i give him the yeo valley which says its a probiotic yoghurt, i assumed chicken and rice settled them down and firmed their mess up again as the vets always tell you to give them this when they are bad, didn't realise that sometimes chicken can give them the runs!!

Give him some Kaolin & Morphine ,about a teaspoon twice a day, and something very bland, White Fish boiled, with Rice.

Hi Helen,

Could it be you are just over feeding him.   Two symptoms.. Not eating as much of the food you put down and loose stools in a puppy.

Just a thought.

Must be a bug going around of some sort , our friends have westies and they have the runs, they had it the day after a westie show at the weekend ... probably caught it there  :( also we were at an all breed open  show on saturday and the tebetan terrier next door to us had the runs , must have picked it up as our  collies have it now and it seems to be creeping thru them all ... I dont think people should go to shows if they know that their dogs have a bug. 2 sleepless nights we ve had now ... so glad its friday !!
