Topic Other Boards / Foo / They're discontinuing my perfume!!!
- By Julie Hill [gb] Date 15.04.09 19:06 UTC
I've used Chloe Narcisse perfume for years - and now to my horror I discover they're not making it any more. So, I need a new scent.

I love sweet perfumes, maybe towards the musky end - nothing too sharp. Any suggestions?

I also like Amarige by Givenchy, but that is what my mother-in-law uses, and it just doesn't seem like mine, it just makes me think of her. (I get on with my m-i-l by the way, but I need an aroma that is mine!)

Thanks in advance!

there was a really good thread on this a while ago if you search just in case there is stuff people don't mention this time.

i adore Hermes J'ardin, its lovely and lemony and lasts ages and ages without being strong. i also like Sunset Heat by Escada, its sort of mango fruity, a nice summer one, but it doesn't last long. DKNY delicious is nice to.

ETA: and i love deep red!

You could try a whiff of Estee Lauder Beautiful.  I think you would describe it as "sweet" and it is certainly beautiful :-)  It is one of my favourites because it seems to last where many others don't on me but I appeciate this can vary with the individual.

Just as a sidetrack, I also use a couple of perfumes that have been discontinued, but I usually manage to buy them anyway - and often quite cheaply too. Worth a search on the internet if you wanted to get a bottle or two to last you? Just as an example, this looks like a reputable site.

I've never had fakes, but the ones I've bought were never particularly mainstream, so wouldn't have been in the fakes market. I don't know Narcisse, so don't know if that would be likely to apply.

Ooooooooh ~ a Girly thread!!~ Woooooot!! :-D

Amarige and Narcisse have White flowers, Mimosa and Gardenia notes... I've popped those into a search of this site Perfume shop and the link has all the perfumes that have those top/base notes so.... you should like them!!

(I wear the Bvlgari Omnia for work and always get stopped by people on the tube asking what perfume Im wearing. The Rock&Rose is lovely (reminds me of Melly ;)) The Calvin Klein Euphoria one is nice I have just bought that....but its only a summer edition.)

Have fun choosing a coupe of afternoons in Boots or a nice department store :) then order it on the site LillyMc has given! (Great site M Im book marking that!)

Ach, there's plenty of them out there. I just put whatever I want in to Kelkoo and see what comes up cheapest!

I went through a real phase of trying to find a new perfurme, and just couldn't find anything I liked - everything seems so sweet to me - so have stuck with my old faithfuls.

Coco by Chanel mainly - and I also regularly get stopped by people to ask what I'm wearing as they love it. If I want something lighter it's Opium Fraicheur d'Orient (discontinued yonks ago, but I still manage to buy it) or Clarins Eau Dynamisante.

I alternate between Dior Addict (I & II) YSL Rive Gauche and Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely.   Also White Linen.   Used to love Diorissima, but its been discontinued yonks ago :(

I also like the Jo Malone colognes - they're wonderfully floral.

And years ago, Avon used to do a wonderful Honeysuckle fragrance .......I'd forgotten all about that one!

Thanks for all replies.

Husky Gal - thanks for the link to that site, it's really useful.

I have been to Boots today, and my daughter and I came out with various perfumes sprayed on wrists/inner elbows etc! The one I like at the moment and that has lasted and reacted well with my skin is Beautiful. I shall take some of the recommendations and do another Boots trip tomorrow.

Cheers! Julie x

Julie,

Try Ebay - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=Chloe+Narcisse&_sacat=See-All-Categories

My OH bought a limited edition CK Summer perfume while in the states and we couldn't get it here (they bring out a new one every year).
We got it on Ebay no problem - Just make sure you check the sellers feedback and that you are buying a new bottle.

I've just bought a new perfume  :-D   YAY hooray!!!!

It's only taken me a few years to find :(  I have weird skin - lots of really lovely perfumes end up smelling like a pig farm on me, which can be disappointing and also very embarassing :( :(

In the last few weeks I've been to a huge BOOTS where they have all the testers in reach of the customers - heaven!  but still couldn't find anything.  Found a few that had to be washed off :(  to the huge amusement of the perfume girl - she'd thought I was joking about pig farms and rotting cabbages LOL  kindly let me use the staff toilet to wash them off.

Then went to smaller chemists (some very snooty :( )  and today found a lovely chemist where one of the staff has the same problem as me :)

I normally wear Obsession, which really suits my skin and smells spicy, but after 15 years it was time for a change.

I loved the smell of GHOST 'original' but on me it smelled of a car body workshop  as the assistant described, so was really surprised that GHOST Deep Night smells really nice and very light and actually worked with my skin.  Didn't cost the earth either :-D

You could try a few different chemist shops, check whether they have testers for all the perfumes, and have a few testing sessions.

HINT - Use the cards provided to see if you like the way they dry down.  Wear a woollen jumper and sniff that to refresh your nose, this will help you last a bit longer while first testing them :)  only try 3 perfumes on your skin at a time as your nose will get tired and not register them after that ;)  it takes 15-20 mins for a perfume to release it's heart notes and up to a few hours for the base notes to be really noticeable.

My favourite perfume in the world is Lancom Climat.  Haven't been able to get it for years.  BOo Hoo

Really, really suited me.  I found that I often liked a perfume on someone else, but it didn't smell the same on me.

I had been doing some testers one lunchtime back in the olden days (60's), and it was mid afternoon before the most gorgeous smell hit.  That was Climat, and even when I couldn't buy it locally, would have a day in Oxford Street so I could stock up annually.  Haven't been able to get it for about 7 years now.  Nothing I've tried since even comes close.

Oh what a croc!!!!

Inspired by everyone finding their old discontinued favourites, I've been searching for one of mine Donna Karan - Chaos (from 1996) thought I might find some cheap bottles...... no, they've only gone and relaunched it and its £53
typical!

I love Gio by Armani.. it is really hard to get it now. £100 on e-bay and I wouldn't risk it now on there. Too many fakes appearing.

I managed to get a bottle at Xmas for £60 but it is so hard.   They brought out a cheaper one and I hate it    Gio Acqua..

 Oh that's galling.

I used to love Gianni Versace but they discontinued that too. Beautiful fragrance, light and airy but always lasted.

I've recently discovered Donna Karan 'Gold'.  Ummm'd and aaaah'd about buying it at the time and decided not to.  Found a bottle on ebay a couple of weeks ago for a tenner :-)
- By JeanSW Date 17.04.09 09:13 UTC
Thanks HG.  I had already found those two links, but when you click to order, it just says out of stock.  I've saved the links, so I can check in periodically, just in case it does become available.  It smells that fantastic, I love it almost as much as puppy breath.  :-)
- By JeanSW Date 17.04.09 09:21 UTC
Thanks Teri.  Hope it's not a fake - but I've ordered it from America on ebay.  Just have my fingers crossed now.  It would be great to waft the smell around again.  It's just hit me how very indulgent I've been.  £56.15!!!

However - the biggie is:  I smoked my last cigarette at 5pm on Monday 28th July 2008 and still want one like crazy.  This is going to be my treat for staying strong!  :-)
