so i am interviewing for a promotion at work in just over an hour and i am starting to feel nervous. I am terrible at job interviews and i get very very nervy and startspeakingreallyreallyfast!!! (lol)

i bought rescue remedy yesterday but forgot to bring it :( and i forgot to pluck my eyebrows

i'm trying to chill and remind myself that actually i would be very good at this job!

soothing thoughts...
- By Granitecitygirl [eu] Date 16.04.09 13:47 UTC
Ooooh how exciting!  I do the exact same as you lol.

Don't worry about the eyebrows :-)  If you will be good at the job, are meant to have the job, then you will get the job ;-)  I always get offered the ones I think have gone very badly lol!

(I'm hoping to have some interviews lined up in the next couple of weeks so will be in the same boat)
- By Astarte Date 16.04.09 13:57 UTC
well the last interview i had in here i aparently did brilliantly in. i cannot say myself as it was very soon after my bowel surgery (about a week and a half) and i was off my head on tramadol. i got the job but couldn;'t start for 2 months because i was still recovering.

the one before that i didn't get probably because i went through my answers at the speed of sound
- By dexter [gb] Date 16.04.09 13:58 UTC
Good luck :) i am sure you will be fine ;)
- By Dogz Date 16.04.09 13:59 UTC
Good luck, you are probably i the throes of it right now...........so positive vibes are winging through cyber space to you..
Karen :)
- By Granitecitygirl [eu] Date 16.04.09 13:59 UTC
Yep, totally get what you are saying.  I have also been known to babble and go off on tangents due to nerves.
- By Astarte Date 16.04.09 14:03 UTC
thanks. its at four.

i'm knackered though! my usual shift is 2.30 till 11pm but today i am doing 10 till 5.30 with some more tomorrow because i've a cousin coming to look at dundee uni and she wants to 1) get some opinions about student life in dundee and 2) meet the family that would be up here. so i got very little sleep last night and for some reason barely slept the night before either. i've just been to do my make up and my bags are tripping me!
- By Astarte Date 16.04.09 14:04 UTC
must not go on tangents! must answer questions clearly, consisely and at a suitable pace of speech!

now i have hiccouphs (sp)
- By Granitecitygirl [eu] Date 16.04.09 14:11 UTC
wishing you the best of luck! :-)  (you've got the new flat, this will be the icing on the cake for you!)
- By Dogz Date 16.04.09 14:12 UTC
Okay so last minute setails....clean teeth and fresh breath and make sure you have been to the loo!

Good luck Kim - nerves are sometimes helpful, the laid back look doesn't come across well :)

Quick loo break, check appearance, deep breath and meet the person interviewing you with a warm smile and a firm handshake (not so firm as to embed your nails in the palm of the hand :-p )

Speaking too fast is a common problem, especially among the Scottish contingent, so make a conscious effort to actually listen to your own voice as your speaking - this helps slow down the rapid fire action which comes naturally.  If you feel you're getting too stressed, stop, gather your thoughts and continue.  Experienced interviewers are aware that nerves sometimes get the better of otherwise excellent candidates.  If you think you're fluffing it say 'I'm sorry, I'm nervous because this position really means a lot to me' or something similar and regain your composure :)

You'll be fine, everything is in the pretzel position for you elsewhere so you don't need to tie yourself in knots too!
best of luck, Teri

lol, indeed.

thanks guys, off for last minute loo break and then off for it. well the worst that can happen is i don;t get it and i stay in a team i like with a job that is ok, so not so bad :)
- By Granitecitygirl [eu] Date 16.04.09 14:49 UTC
That's the spirit! :-)
- By Astarte Date 16.04.09 15:30 UTC
well i'm done :) it went better than i expected but i doubt that i got it, i didn't speak at great speed! either way it was better than my last interview without pain killers so i reckon maybe a few dozen more and i might be reasonably comfortable :)

the thing is i am very outgoing and freely speak normally (as you all know lol) with most people but as soon as i'm in some sort of formal situation i clam up- even when i get my annual review with my lovely lovely boss i get nervous! i know my current job inside and out but as soon as i need to talk about it in a little room with people at a table i freak. must work on this!
- By AliceC Date 16.04.09 19:04 UTC
I'm glad it went better than expected - I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Any ideas when you should find out? :-)

Aye me too Kim, and I am an oldie now, I never find it gets any easier. The last two I went to they must have thought I was a complete nut  . It wasn't helped by the fact they were pannel four people when I was expecting a one to one.

Did it go a bit like this!!?? ;)
:-D

Ok... in all seriousness now, Sorry wasn't around to send "good lucks & sock it to 'ems" earlier... but glad I am to see it wasn't needed ;) Fingers crossed for a good outcome for you too petal xx

(p.s. Inspirational workforce motivation from you......LOL Im still laughing to myself at the players on the Podengo Quiz 'Astarte's friend  XXX at work who is bored'....... I'd promote you on that alone! ;))
- By Astarte Date 17.04.09 12:35 UTC

lol, yeah, i am 'Team Mum' and the kiddies were bored lol... we have a charity quiz thing on sat so we've all been testing each other all week. lol, it would seem that Dean is a poor choice for any dog related questions...
- By Astarte Date 17.04.09 12:36 UTC

oh that would be horrid! in here its always 2 of them, one questioner and one note taker who can ask things if they want.
- By breehant Date 17.04.09 13:13 UTC
Good luck Kim, fingers crossed for you here :)
- By Astarte Date 23.04.09 15:53 UTC
as you were all lovely and supportive i thought i would let you know i got through to the 2nd stage following the interview. i did the tests today, i think they were fine- 2 people at least didn't finish and i finished with 10 mins to spare without rushing so went over my answers. another person i know who did them thinks it went badly. 13  of us did it and there are 5 jobs so 3 down, 5 to go lol. i think we should find out next week.
- By breehant Date 23.04.09 17:39 UTC
Well done on getting through to the 2nd stage Kim, fingers still crossed for you :)

There you go - isn't it always the interviews that start off looking like they weren't blazing a trail that come up trumps :)  Congratulations and good luck for round 3!
