Try and get them to do it right next to a settee or something so that he has to be closer.  Gosh it's bad enough on my back with a medium sized breed couldn't cope with a breed the size of a DDB!

Fingers crossed things have got going by now!

I've had this happen a few times. Sadly it's not always possible to get a mating at all. Maybe it's a breed thing? The only breed I've bred,or handled dogs when mating, is my own. So know nothing about other breeds. But my opinion is that the urge to mate is one important thing to consider when choosing a dog for your bitch. If we keep using males that have to be more or less persuaded to mate, or who need to be almost forced, then we'll end up in a very difficult situation eventually. Here you're not supposed to AI unless both dogs have had litters the natural way first. But you can get a vet to verify the natural instincts are there, and get round the rule that way.

Edited to add: The above is only a general comment on difficult matings. In no way referring to the two dogs briedog is mating, about which I of course know nothing!

To perrodeagua, my breed isn't one you really want to mate indoors. So I'd think a DDB couple even less ;-)  Still, when you're getting frustrated enough, you're prepared to try  anything that might work ;-)

Oh dear. I'm sorry, was hoping you had gotten lucky by now. It''s somehow really messing your nerves up, isn't it? I can't remember if you've metioned progesterone testing? Are you certain it's not too early? I know of at least two bitches that postponed the ovulation due to the stress of travelling to the dog. So even if you've been keeping track of all the signs, you can be fooled by the sudden halt of things. A knowing male will of course know that ovulation hasn't taken place yet.
If a blood test isn't done, maybe that could be an option? I like to know what I'm dealing with. I hate having to guess if it's the right day or not.

Again, good luck!
Karen
Maybe the tea could be swapped to a glass of wine, does wonders for tight nerves :-)

Hhi Terri

Karen could be right - you may still be too early, if, as you said yesterday, she's still swollen.    The swelling needs to go down a bit!
