Hi everyone
Have just registered as I need to pick the brains of you wonderful people on whether it is wise to have 2 male GSD's in the house. I have a 20 month at the moment, who due to his friskiness with my children has now got a date with the vet. We want to get another pup next year, but I have always been a dog rather than a bitch person. At one point I had 3 entire GSD males and had no problems whatsoever, but having the kids around now, am a bit more cautious.
As my 20 month old has been used as a stud for a litter with the breeder that bred him originally ( he was only to be used by her or bitches that were approved by her), I have been told that they can be aggresive towards other males after having mated. Can anyone tell me if this aggression will still be there once he has been nuetered or will it diminish in time when he forgets what he did in the past.
Thank you for listening.

Greetings and welcome to the forum :)
Today I discovered this well written article about
Castration . You might find it helpful to read. It seems well balanced and neutrally inclined towards the entire subject with pro's and con's.

toodles

Hi Tommy
My advice would be to get a female.2 males can be a problem and are in most cases..castration does not guarantee change in temperament/character/aggresive tendencies..ect. Usually a male will accept another male until about the age of 20 months , thats when the younger one begins to feel his feet.
You could get lucky as you have been in the past but to be on the safe side and also to have a natural companion for your male..get a female.

I keep 3 males together 2 intact one castrated (the eldest) and have no trouble at all, they are not GSD'S but are a breed that can be difficult with males of their own breed.
Don't know if this is any help, the fact that I don't have trouble does not mean that you wont of course. Would suggest that if you are having the eldest castrated that you do it as long as possible before you get a new pup, if you wait until you have the pup you may have trouble if you happens to castrate the top dog, as you will upset the balance. ja:)kie

I have 3 males and 1 intact they get along fine. Did have a diagreement when my bitch came into heat, but thats done because both my females are spayed now. :)
