Has anybody used a canny collar?
- By Harley Date 13.04.09 19:20 UTC
Yes I have and I think it is excellent - I use it for a GR after dark in firework season.

Yes - I love them -I've used them on a collie X and an Elkound I don't always use them now as they've helped so much with calming them down on lead.  I've also found that they don't ride up into the eyes as some others do and they're adaptable to use as a plain collar [when the nose piece is taken off and clipped around their neck].  I tend to use them now at the start of an especially exciting walk - don't how they know this LOL - and adjust as flat collar after the initial burst.  I find the ability to adapt the head- collar a great boon as when letting them off lead I don't have to take them off.

Thats why I was interest but bumped into a lady this morning who's dog had one on but said when she fastened the ends to make an ordinary collar it keep coming undone anybody experienced this.

No I have never found that a problem at all. The make up of the collar is such that it is in fact a proper collar that goes around the dogs neck as normal and the loop part is a secondary one that is joined to the main collar so if the loop comes off the nose your dog is still attached to the neck collar because the loop is attached to it. I like the canny collar in that the lead still attaches at the back of the head, the loop is easy to put on/take off and I don't have to take the collar off the dog if I were letting him off lead. I have a clip that attaches to the D rings and would be used to secure the loop in place around the dogs neck rather than over it's muzzle if the dog were to go off lead.

As I only use mine after dark when fireworks are in use I don't let my dog off lead at those times.

Hi I bought a canny collar at crufts as I've tried every head collar on the market and I do think its the best so far.My boys are very big and strong and there are times when you need that extra bit of control without having to struggle putting head collars on and off. With the c collar you dont need to take it off, just clip the 2 ends together with the carabiners that come with it and you still have a good strong collar to clip the lead onto. Plus it does not ride up into their eyes.

Roscoebabe are are your dogs gsd I was trying o see in your avatar ? I ask because I am thinking of getting a canny for my gsd and the riding in to his eyes or rubbing his nose has been a problem with most (have just lost his dogmatic which wasn't bad  for me but he hated it hated it)

I too have a Canny collar for my pup and I think its brilliant. :-)

My boy walks really nicely on a the lead but is very bouncy and loves people, so I use it in places I know he will get excited. Mainly where there are lots of people around such as shops.
I must admit I take it off if he is ever wearing it when he is going to be off lead.

Hi furriefriends, Yes they are gsd's and yes I tried the dogmatic and my lot hated them as well! The canny collar is so far the best I have used and the dogs seem to be happier wearing it.

Thanks Roscoebabe think I will give it ago, have been working through most of the headcollars and have to get another now anyway.

Hi, Just seen this post.  I LOVE the Canny Collar.  It stopped our GR pulling like a train (tried everything to stop him) and he is now a pleasure to walk.  It doesn't pull their head to the side like a halti and there's not threading through their collar as it comes with its own.  Our dog trainer advised us to clip a second lead to our dog's own collar but we found this a bit awkward.  I believe people with bigger and more powerful dogs do this for safety.  We found the construction of the Canny good enough - although attach the lead to the actual rings on the collar rather than the D shaped caribiners - I think this is what the trainer was on about, they can snap.

What was the problem with it then? I have found them to be brilliant so just wondering why you didn't like it.
- By peppe [gb] Date 27.04.09 10:12 UTC
He just pulled with it on so went back to the dogmatic and he stop pulling straight away.  The reason I change was I like the idea of being able to use it as a collar so I didn't have to take it of when he was playing.

ROFL peppe, why would anyone want to buy it when you have said it isn't any good?  I think you need to work on your sales technique lol ;)
- By furriefriends Date 27.04.09 18:24 UTC
funny  that I have just bought the cannyas we lost our dogmatic. Mine is happier with canny but yes pulls a bit which is something he didn't do with the dogmatic. Mind he is still good enough  with the canny and we are still training. Wonder whatthe difference is to the dogs ?
Have now found dogmatic but it looks like a fox has bitten through it as it was in the woods !!
Shame I didn't see your sales pitch earlier peppe might have given you an offer LOL

Just thought somebody might have been interest as just because it didn't suit mine there are some out there that get on quite with them, still have sent it back now for a refund.
