Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / My westie and her VERY sensitive tummy

Hi all!

I am new to the board but I wanted to ask everyone's advice if I may please?

I have a 5 year old female Westie (Ellie). Ever since we got her (at 12 weeks old) she has had a very sensitive tummy. If she eats anything out of the ordinary (stuff people drop) or absolutely anything she gets diahorrea. We tried all sorts of different dog food but the 1 that has her the most solid is Chappie (probably because of it's blandness). Recently though it's as if she's gone off this and turns her nose up at it when we put it in her bowl. She isn't eating it and has lost weight yet she is constantly scrounging for people's food or going round the house with her nose to the floor. I know it sounds as though she is just being picky but we are getting worried now as she is thinner then she was. We'd love to be able to give her scraps (my mum always cooks lots!) but it will just go straight through her and she can't handle it.

Can anyone suggest any dog food that may be of help to her please? We just want to get her eating her dog food again and put a bit of weight on.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :-)
Many thanks,
Lou

Are you feeding Chappie Tins or Chappie Kibble?   they are different and replies would depend on your answer ;)

I have 2 toy poodles one who is very fussy so I have tried many foods, I have found that they both like Natures Menu in tins (not pouches) which is expensive but in my opinion an excellent food as it contains no preservatives or additives at all. I have tried the pouches again natures menu but my fussy dog Rusty much prefers the tins for some reason. Hope this helps.

Hi Dill!

We are feeding her Chappie tins. What is Chappie Kibble?

Thanks :-)

Wafcol salmon and Potato seems to be good on the tummy.

It's the dry version of Chappie - it has different ingredients to the tinned ;)  I tried feeding it once (just the one bag) - never in my life have I smelled anything like what came out the other end - looked OK but needed a gas mask to pick up and they got dreadful 'wind' too :( :(

If she has a sensitive tum, you really need to find out what causes it - or what's in Chappie tins as it seems to agree with her tum ;)

Chappie Tins used to be just fish and rice, way way back when I were a lass ;)  maybe that would be a starting point?

Failing that, have you had her tested at the vets to find out what she's reacting to?

Thanks all for your responses! We are trying Ellie on Pedigree Chum loaf tinned food and fingers crossed, so far so good! She is eating it and seems to be enjoying it at the moment :-)

Will keep you updated!

Thanks all :-)
