I've just had my bitch scanned and we could clearly see 5 pups and think there may well be more - she has 5 weeks to go and I'm sorting out the whelping box/equpment etc - last time I had a litter I used the newborn disposable whelping box which I was very happy with and which lasted well - albeit being somewhat tatty after 6 weeks ! - but I'm wondering this time what the Link-a-Bord whelping boxes are like - they have the advantage of being reuseable and easily disinfected but I wondered if anyone on here had experience of using them ?
Also puppy pens - the one I have is really too tatty now and I'm thinking of buying the Bigfoot puppy run from Dog Health or the Discovery 6 panel set from Croft - again anyone used either of these products ?
Hi Yvonne. I have the Freedom pen from croft and its very well made, you can buy extra panels and it comes in 2 height options as well. It also has a strong plastic tray which is really good quality. I've had mine 3yrs now and am very happy with it. It's expensive but it will last forever.
sorry i cant be too helpfull as we made ours, it was massive filled our front room nearly, but hope you get sorted and blessing to your little ones when they come
hi yvonne i used Link a bord on my last litter of 5 medium size pups. found it excellent - we bought the white one. its just like upvc lengths which literally all link together. we left a gap at one side and placed a puppy cage there once the babies were mobile. they soon learned to use that area as their toilet especially as i kept it covered with newspaper. as its such an easy material to work with i could disinfect and clean it easily at all times. we were able to use it until they were sold and then hosed it down, packed it away in its original box and stored it in the loft for next time. judging by wear and tear from one litter i reckon its going to last us years! hope this is helpful.
Hi Yvonne A friend used a Linkabord whelping box for her litter of Boerboels and I was really impressed with it. If I ever breed a litter again, I will get one :)
I am currently using a linkabord whelping box. Im really pleased with it at the mo, the pups are all snuggly and warm and they made it to the measurements i requested. The only problem i have is that it is not water tight so once pups are bigger and doing bigger wees i will need to put some plastic covering over my wooden floor so it doesn't leak through to the bottom. I can live with that though as it looks very attractive and mom and pups are more than happy in there.
Yes same here, our linkabord is on its second outing. Still looking great, easy to keep clean. I gave it a bleachy bath in the bathtub after last time then stood the pieces on end to air dry. Came up nice and clean, no stains, wonderful!
No advice as we have always made our own and then burnt them afterward, but just wanted to say congrats on the pending little Bijous.
thanks Marianne - in the end I ordered a disposable one from New Born but really only because of the additional expense - we've also ordered a new ( V expensive ! ) puppy pen - some vet bed and the whelping kit by Pet Nap so it was all beginning to mount up !.
