I have been weaning my pups, and have a bit of a dilema.  I know they should be weaned onto a puppy food, but the kibbles are so big!  Right now I am putting the kibbles in the blender and grinding them up.
I am currently using Wellness Puppy, and I feed Cher (normally) Wellness Small Breed.

The breakdown is almost the same, differences by hardly one percent on the nutrient guide between the two.  The only thing puppy food has, that Wellness Small Breed doesnt is DHA.

The small breed kibbles are a lot smaller, and would be easier for my guys to eat.  The kibbles for the puppy food, are about the same size kibbles as I would have been feeding my late springer spaniel.  They are pretty big

Should I switch weaning them to the small breed kibble, or should I continue grinding up the puppy and feeding it to them that way.

Do you mean dry?  I think most people who use a complete food wet it first to soften and then use a blender to make a porridge.  I would not expect a puppy to take it dry right from the beginning, for a start they will not be getting enough fluid unless they are also lapping water well which I doubt they would be.  I gradually reduce the fluid until they are eating it dry between 6 and 7 weeks old.

I grind the dry kibble in a blender, and then add some water to it to make it a porridge.  But I was looking at making the pieces eventually full size so they could eat it.  I am just nervous of the size of the puppy kibble.

The pups are 5.5 weeks now, and the other litter is 6.5 weeks.  Both still get food ground in the blender.

How about putting the kibble in a bag and bashing it with a rolling pin?  :-D

Soak the kibble in just off boiling water for a couple of hours and it will mash down nicely.

As pups get older gradually use less water and soak for a shorter period, eventually they will be eating it dry between 6 and 8 weeks.
