Hi guys

Were looking to rent a house and really struggling with online sites and wondered if anyone could help.

We went to veiw a small holding today which would have been ideal but would have needed about £5,000 spent on the inside to bring it up to date and habitable and the a couple of thousand on some kennels and fencing etc.  However the guy only wanted to rent it out for 12mths,

We need the following:-

We need to be within 20 miles of crook, co durham
3 beds (as we have two foster children who need seperate bedrooms)
Enough room for the dogs (2 x newfs 2x shih tzu)
Enough outside space for our 1 horse) min 2 acres max 5
somewhere quite rural

We find the sites such as rightmove.co.uk too ridgid as you cant redefine your search to look for key words such as rural, kennels, stable, acre etc?

We are probley looking for the impossible but thought I would ask if anyone has had any good experiences

Have you tried www.ruralscene.co.uk?   Though I'm not sure if they do properties for rent.

Otherwise - try Savilles or Strutt &Parker

You can also do what I did....
Place an advert in the paper local to you. I put in what I wanted and got more than half a dozen people offering me a rent and I have 6 dogs.
Doing it this way saved me having to ask and at the moment most agencies flat out refuse pets in their contracts. This way you deal with the owners and will know for sure you are getting what you want and that the owner is happy with the arrangements.
My advert went into 5 locals for less than a fiver.

These days some owners are desperate for their houses to be filled and scan he house wanted pages. It took less than 3 days before I had as many offers.

Just be honest...
Cheers
I ended up with a 4 bed 3 reception LARGE stable yard paddock and 6 stalls even tho I didn't need the stables they make great shelters if the dogs get stuck out in the weather by accident and it makes good storage...(turned one into a grooming room as it has running water) :-)

Hi Thompson1,

Why not find all the letting agents in the area and register your details with them, and ask them to contact you as soon as soon as anything suitable becomes available? It can sometimes be quite hard to find properties to rent with land, but they do come up occasionally.

The idea that another poster suggested of putting a 'Wanted' advert in local papers is a good idea too.

Good luck, hope you find your perfect home soon :-)
