hi all. Really sorry if this appears to be common sense...
I had my whippet chipped when she was a tiny pup, so about 4 months ago. I'd bathed her last nite and was towel drying her, and brushed my hand against her chest and have found what i think is the chip. It moves and is inbetween only what i can describe as her shoulder blades.  Could this be it?? It feels like the female contraceptive implant if that helps lol!
I was told the chip moves, but would it move this much?? Or have they doneit wrong. I'm just worried that if she gets out for whatever reason they'll scan her in the wrong place and think she's stray.

Shoulder blades are on the dogs back where the chip is usually inserted.  Do you mean on the chest between the front legs?

yeah. its inbetween, but more to the right side slightly. They said when they chipped her that would chip back of the neck, but feels like its the other side. Can it move that far in the space of a few months. I was under the impression only so with a dog such as Sharpei with the baggy skin.

Hello there, I had this problem several weeks back where I thought the chip had moved into my dogs neck from in between his shoulder blades, so I just took him up to the vets and asked them to scan it for me, they didn't charge me for this, so might be work doing for a peace of mind.

I have heard of the chips moving into dog legs and all sorts so it does happen.

I don't want to frighten you by any means but ours was a lump not his microchip which was still in the same place it was inserted 4 years agos, which we had removed and it was a harmless. Keep us posted.

Dogs are chipped between the shoulder blades, but the chips can ocassionally moved. I've heard of one moving down into the dogs toes I had to have one removed from my bitch as it was close to her elbow. Your best bet would be to take her down to get your vets to scan it, just to see if it has moved. It would then be on her records as having moved. Most vets/rescue centres will now scan the whole dog as they are more aware nowadays that they do sometimes move.

I have called Petlog just, and they said it does happen for the chip to move., and that wardens and vets are aware that there is a possibility of movement so SHOULD check all over the body, but some don't. She has said to contact my vets to see what they suggest, or tattoo her. She did say to leave the collar and ID tag on at all times, but she's a whippet so has fragile neck so she only has a collar on at walk times not in the house and garden. (which was recommended by her breeder).
But the woman did say at Petlog that if the chip has moved, then not much that can be done.

Am going to call my vets now and see what is said

you could get her a house collar for her name tag, they have some nice ones here http://www.silverpeacock.co.uk/collar_single.htm my parents have a whippet sized lurcher who has one of these on all the time then they just put her wide leather collar when out for walks.

One of mine has had his chip move from between the shoulder blades to part way down his front leg, they have offered to replace it at my vets and offered the information that it happens more when they are done young and the only remove them if they are causing a problem.

doubt very much youd be able to feel it....but why not have him scanned by your vet or local scanner (or me if you are local!) to put your mind at rest?

My Rjj's chip is now in his forechest & it can be felt quite easily
