I am slowly changing my dogs over to BARF, have read lots of threads on here and other forums but just wanted to clarify something

Most of dogs are all around 16lb so 5-6oz of BARF a day ?  Is that all ??

One other question, my young Golden just had a chicken drumstick, we had to hold it to stop him swallowing it whole, but unfortunaetly he wipped the last bit out of my hand and swallowed whole - will he be ok ?  Boy was he quick !!!  Will we always have to do this or will he settle down ?

I am introuducing one thing at a time, they are now having half their kibble and the rest BARF (seperate meals), how long do I carry this on before completely changing over ?

Thanks for your help

yes if my maths i correct about 2-3% of body weight as a rough guide to start . You will get the idea in time if they need more or less just like you do with yourself

Your dog should be fine  and will get used to slowing down to chew or at least most do. I know some people bask the bone a bit before giving to their dogs so iisn't completely wholes . when I introduced mine to raw I only took a couple of days they were happy and keen and had no funny tums. No idea if this is the norm I am afraid

Thankyou, thought I had worked it out right but it didn't seem much at all so just wanted to check

I'm slightly confused by your weights (it doesn't take much!).

Assuming you have Goldies, I'm guessing they would weigh between 30-35 kgs (as mine do)? They get about 1lb (454g) of meat a day + meaty bones, which are lamb ribs, maybe 3-4 times a week. I don't feed chicken bones, other than in minced meat, because mine tend to swallow them whole and I often saw fragments of bone in the poo, which I don't with the lamb ribs. If you want to feed chicken bones I'd feed larger pieces or something like half a chicken that can't be swallowed in one hit and he has to work at! Mine get occasional extras such as eggs, pulped vegetables and leftovers, yoghurt etc.

Some people make the change from kibble to raw straight off, others take it more slowly. I guess it depends on your dogs. My lot went from Naturediet one day to raw the next with no problems at all.
