can anyone tell me how i can id a pup thats been chosen & bought i have 4 all the same colour & cannot see any difference in them.they are 4 wks old i had about 4 id collars on her but the other puppies (11 of them)keep chewing it & nearly getting it off her.i have marked her with a felt tip would this be safe enough.it is non toxic thanks
A friend puts nail varnish on the toe, different colours or a white dot on rump, back, front etc and writes down each puppy..

You could clip off a bit of hair in an area that wasn't too noticeable (it will grow back).
I bought some brilliant puppy id collars last time. Lightweight so not a problem for them. If you would like, I can pm you details.

I always put ricrac ribbon on my pups from birth. Its cheap and you buy it per metre (either online, through ebay or at most haberdasheries/hobbycraft stores), so theres plenty to use for changes when they out grow it or if it gets grubby.
Its not 'slippy' like most ribbon so you know it wont loosen or tighten without you knowing.

I tried food colouring on my rats but found clipping a bit of hair the most lasting method :-)

These collars on
here are really nice light weight adjustable and washable :-) she makes them to order and they will be delivered within 48 hours. Just let her know what breed etc you have and they will be made to size. I have found them to be of good quality at a good price

breeders I know use tippex on different parts of the body.

tippex can be corrosive so I wouldn't use it on a pup. We used it to cover up stains on martial arts suits and it burned right through - it might react with sweat and oils hence why it doesn't react on paper. Just a theory.
lol, Im gunna use coloured ribbon x

I always use nail varnish. A different colour for each pup. Put on the end of each tail.
Yes, these are the ones I've used and can thoroughly recommend them. I have used them once on my last litter and they've washed up as good as new and will be used again in due course.

I use embroidery thread leaving an inch or two tag of the colour so it shows as the part round the neck disappears in the coat.
thanks but i bought some of these but the other puppies kept chewing it off i have been using non toxic washable felt tip i have to mark it every day because it wears off its non permenant

I have used TabBands for many years and wouldn't use anything else.
