Not sure about this :
If my dog wins a show and qualifies for crufts (for example), but in the show the dog is younger (and therefore in a different class) than he is at crufts which class does he get entered into at crufts?
For example if he qualifies when entered as minor puppy, then is too old come crufts what happens?
Thanks.
You enter the class that your dog is old enough for at the time of the show,
So say you win in minor puppy to qualify for Crufts but he's 19 months old when Crufts is on
you'd have to enter the Special Yearling class (obviously Crufts class classification is different so you'd need to read the schedule
to see which class the dog is eligible to be entered in).
Have you shown at all before?
It might be worth learning the ropes at a few open shows/breed shows first. As Champ shows can be quite daunting.
Average entries at the moment are 150 Boxers at Champ shows at Cruft's we have almost 300 if I remember correctly.
Oh and if your dog is a pup it might be worth just doing the breed puppy class and one av puppy class for practise.
Same applies to open shows, do the one puppy breed class and then the AV working puppy or AV puppy class.

If your dog qualifies for Crufts he is entered using his age on the first day of Crufts so if he is 8months old to 14 months old on the first day he would be entered into Special Puppy - Crufts Special Puppy class has different age restrictions to other shows and thats why its called Special. If he were to be more than 14 months old but up to 18 months old he would then need to be entered into Junior.
In fact which ever show you are entering while he is still young enough to enter the age restricted classes it depends on their age on the first day of the show concerned.
Boxacrazy :
AV Puppy...what does av stand for?
Thanks.

I agree with Boxacrazy, If your dog is a puppy to enter a maximum of 2 classes per show. Puppies get tired/bored very quickly & the last thing you want is a dog that gets fed up with showing at an early age.
Thanks all....finally does OD stand for Open dog?
And if it does why would you enter the OD section when you can enter a breed class?
Thanks.

Yes it does.
If your breed have classes at the show it has to go in it's breed class first
So if your breed has Puppy Junior Graduate & Open for each of the sexes and your dog is older than 18 months you can enter either Grad or Open. But if your dog has won more than the prizes mentioned in the classification it has to go in Open in the breed class.

That's a good point to make - the age classes go on the age that the dog
will be on the first day of the show, not the age he is when completing the entry form. :-)

OD is part of the breed class. But your pup will be too young for that class
Thanks so open dog in breed class is for a dog that does fit into any other category?

If your dog is a puppy or a junior, Open would be to high a class to enter at this stage in your showing career.

Yes

Open Dog is for any dog of of the breed, of whatever age. But it's the only class that Champions can enter, so although a 6 month old puppy
can be entered in it, it's likely to be very much out of its depth.

I am new to showing too. (4 months in ) and have been advised to not go in to open class yet as most of the dogs in that class are much older and a pup would not look its best standing with much more mature dogs .
Not forgetting of course that Open Dog is only for males. Open Bitch is for the girls.

If you take the time to read the Show schedule from cover to cover the classes and eligibility is explained.
I always re read them from time to time.
