Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / To Wee or not to Wee!!

I have always owned male dogs, and this is my first bitch (although I do not know if that is relevant or not). When I take her out for a walk (5 months old), although she has done the occasional pooh, she has never had a wee outside. Always waits until we come home, and then generally goes in the garden if she needs to. Is this normal?

Many thanks.

The males natural desire to mark its territory whereas it's not such a normal activity for a bitch. So saying I've had bitches who always gave me a guide to them coming into season by marking over almost anything they could find to mark over! Watch for changes in the usual behaviour and you too may well find "Advanced Warnings" signs!

Regards John

Young bitches, or those lacking confidence will often not go (urinate or defecate) away from home, this usually changes as John says once they reach sexual maturity, and when they are coming into or in season, to advertise their state. Some bitches will cock their leg almost like a male. My second youngest bitch started doing this once she had a litter (thereby raising her rank) and will mark over where her companions have peede, or other dogs marks.
