I have a bitch who has always stood and flagged on day 4 of her season already. She's now been mated on day 5 & 6 -after this both she and the dog lost interest. I'd just like to hear of litters conceived as early on as this -I've heard of plenty of matings from day 3 onwards but did they result in puppies? With only early matings? This is this girl's first time of being mated.

I have had a litter of 3 from a day 4/6 mating.. Whelping was 71days from 1st mating.. so although standing and willing to tie, did not ovulate for another couple of days..

I would go and have a progesterone assay to check that she has in fact ovulated.

Yes, I have one girl who only actually bleeds for around 3 days before going over, and she is then like a tart, normally so sedate love her! She's the ony bitch that I've ever had 3 litters from, different sires each time. She only ever has 2 pups, and I have kept them all, knowing that she won't be mated again, and her lines are lovely. Her last litter at the end of last year, she was mated on day 6 and had 2 pups.
Wish you luck! No reason that it can't produce you a lovely litter. :-)
call me thick :) i didnt know a bitch would stand if she wasnt ready ???

I've had many bitches who would flirt and stand from day 2 though to day 18 and sometimes beyond.
Whether they would actually mate and conceive is another matter as I've always used other methods to determine the correct 'day'.

A few of my girls will stand from day 3 onwards..
One of my girls stood at day 5.. mating and tie took place on day 22, and produced pups.. I test my girls before going to stud, because they stand outwith optimum times..

I have one utter trollop that will stand at the beginning and the end of season. She has tied both ends of a season, but taken to the earlier mating.
My girl was ready early on. This was the first and only time she was bred.
Took her to the stud on day 7 - mated and tied, tried her on day 9 to see if she'd mate - no thankyou....would play with the stud but that was it.
Result - 7 live pups (this was two years ago)

I'v served one of our girls on Day 1 (as far as we were concerned) and she went on to have 8 healthy pups. We had traveled far and wide to chosen studs to get her in whelp previously with no luck.
I guess her pro-oestrus stage must have been completely silent.

Thanks all -very much appreciated! I feel a lot more relaxed now, especially as we achieved a third mating this morning on day 8. I'll be borrowing a Mate-Tel to use for the rest of the season.

I think you've got very saucy girls Kay!!! You haven't been teaching them norty ways have you!?? :-p

Just had a litter after mating on day 6, she'd missed 3 times previous to this. Only had three but they are beautiful. Her first two litters she concieved on day 18 matings!!!
I believe you have the same breed as me. My girl missed twice after having good matings both times so last time I went for the progesterone testing. Was blood tested on day 6 and the results came back to mate within 72 hours. Had already lost 24 of those but we had three good matings before the the 72 hours were up and a litter of 3 duly arrived 6 days early. Think we were probably too late on the previous tries. Good luck and fingers crossed for you and your girl.

i have two who would stand and blink their fufu at anything who wants or does not want to look, and one who has run into the sea and sat down to get away.
i had a bitch who was constantly "getting busy" from day one but obviously was only in true season and tied on those true season days, she was 64 days from the tie a witnessed

Coincidence?
My early matings, resulting in pups, have been from a toy breed. Looks like you're highly likely to be in luck MarianneB :-)

Interesting that sheltpap noted a 6 days early whelping to an early mating. Wonder if it is just toy breeds, because my girl that flags from day 3 was a whole week early. Straightforward whelping, and healthy chubby pups, glad I had everything ready early!!!!
My girl almost caught me on the hop! No signs of imminent puppies just a bit of digging and panting, thought I had hours to get ready. Sat watching TV, just glanced up and a puppy had just been born. The others all arrives in just over an hour without hardly a whimper from the bitch. Puppies all lovely and healthy too.

I had a Papillon stood for the dog on day 3 her only mating and she had 4 healthy pups 63 days later.
with her previous litter she had been mated on day 11 and 13.
Good luck with your girl Marriane.
