Hi
Can anyone help My dog Daisy is in hospital at the moment, she was acting odd and would not put her foot down and appeared lame when she went to sleep she kept flinching so I new some thing was wrong I took her to the vet who said maybe she had just pulled it I ask for a second opinion and was sent to a vet hospital 31st March 2009 they kept her overnight and said that although the lef/foot was not responding on test they did they thought with the rest she would be ok and to pick her up. On arriving I was told that she had gone into a seizure and they were going to do a MRI scan what will this show and if she is epileptic does this mean you can never leave her alone and what happens if you do.
I am so sad I will find out tomorrow what the result show?

It seems a bit over the top to me. An MRI scan will cost you over £1000 most likely. When one of my dogs started having fits the vet said it could be epilepsy without known cause or it could be a brain tumour. The only thing an MRI scan would show would be if he had a brain tumour, and if he did, there wasn't much we could do about it as brain surgery would cost thousands and would only prolong life by perhaps 6 months. So he actually recommended to NOT have an MRI scan done, and instead we went down the route of trying epilepsy medication -but only once the dog had frequent fits, once a week or more -if they're not frequent you don't usually need to medicate as they could happen just once every few months or so. This was over 2 years ago and my dog is absolutely fine. Bit tired but we think that is the medication, bit forgetful, otherwise he has a normal life. The medication stopped the fits. The only time he's had one since being on medication was when he was neutered as he started fitting when they put him under anaesthetic.
