My scottish trerrier pup has a slight brindle ring on it's tail would she lose points if we wanted to show her. This is my first scottie so I would be glad of any advice .

You should not lose points, you should remember though that if you are going to show you should hand strip your scottie and not clip it. To adhear to the breed standard they require a double coat - harsh outer one and softer under coat.
You will probably find that the ring will grow out as the pup gets older - my dog had a white ring (he's sort of silver brindle but not excessively so) and that grew out by the time he was 2.
