Hi guys

We have jsut moved into temporary rented accomodiation which has a garden but its not as big as we would like, My dogs are all used to having a paved area for the garden were they do there business but this garden only has grass.

I have two newfoundlands and two shih tzus.  My neighbour has complained to the council as she can smell dog urine in the garden and had a phone call from environmental health to mention it.

I was wondering is there anything out there to put on the grass to help the smell go? Im not allowed to put patio or anything else down but wasnt sure if there was anything save to put on the grass to help erradicate the smell or help stop the grass going yellow?

How temporary? I use Jeyes (diluted) in the compound, but then they are only in there rarely these days if we go somewhere they can't go...

I'd be surprised if it was that bad but she may just be oversensitive to the fact you have dogs.

If the ground is a bit hard after the lack of rain the wee may be taking a little longer to drain away.  The warm still air will make any odour linger longer.

A few things to try:

* spike the garden with the tines of a fork or use a lawn aerator to ensure you have better drainage
** keep a watering can of water handy to pour on every wee site after the deed, this will help dilute the smell and help prevent yellowing
** if necessary add a little washing up liquid or biological washing liquid to the water.  Neither of these will damage the grass but may help with the smell.
*** if you have boys - they may be marking fences or posts which will hold the smell and a sticky residue.  This can be scrubbed off if necessary with something stronger

Good luck if she's being very difficult but the best advice would be to explain what you are doing to help her and make friends if possible.  Perhaps when she realises you are only temporary she'll ease off a bit :)

Brilliant will give them a go,

where only here for 6mths (providing we find somewhere else quick)  I explained to the lady next door about what I would try etc however shes "one of those" lol

There all the type of dogs, no matter how far you take them on a walk they will all come back and do there business in the garden lol (typical!)

You could try This

I've used it on grass and concrete and in the house when we had cats and it works a treat :)

with my 4 i have the same problem, they all tend to have their own pee place so those places get stinky and boggy. all i can suggect is a bit of sand over the top but remove the sane Regularly.
i think its a problem with the larger ones in general.
