I've had my little girl Penny (2) mated for the first time. I'm rather concerned as today (day 35 of bleeding - 3 weeks after mating) I've noticed a brown discharge like old blood, now slowly appearing redder! I have no idea as yet whether Penny is pregnant, she has slowed down a little, but there are no other obvious signs. I've noticed this on a Saturday night and am very worried about her. Should I be worried about this, or is this normal? Do I rush her to the vets tonight, tomorrow or just see how it goes? Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!
if she stays ok tonight (is that sunday?) id still go to vets tomorrow if it goes worse go straight awway
Yes, it's sunday - I posted this in the wrong place yesterday and cut and paste it today - so the days were wrong. Thanks for your advice. She is still acting fine, but the blood loss does seem to be getting worse!
Hi, I had this with my bitch around the same time as yours, (day 33) a discharge that started quite dark and has now turned to a brown/reddish discharge. I took her to the vets and was told no pups, suspected pyometra, after a scan it turns out here are 3 or 4 healthy pups. She is due in 3 weeks and still losing this discharge mainly when she wees. A bit almost like a blood clot comes out. She has had antibiotics, but this has not stopped it but the pups are alive and healthy and her tummy is growing by the day. So get her up the vets, but don't panic too much, it might not necessarily mean anything terrible.
Thanks for that - I feel slightly settled! It would be lovely if there were pups, but obviously her health is the most important issue. I will get her to the vets tomorrow and I'm about to look up "pyometra" again for further insight. Thanks you once again!

My girl had a bloody discharge, at around day 40. The vet wasnt sure what to make of it, and said keep a close eye on her, but couldnt offer much advice. Day 62 she went on to deliver 3 healthy pups.

our girl had similar problem vet had us get a scan to find what she thought was 5/6 puppys, moving very healthy, discharge went away completely within a week, she went on to day 61 and gave us a very big suprise, 10 puppys, not usual for my breed

Well, thank you to everyone. I am feeling much happier now after seeing your messages. I will be off to the vets tomorrow though, to make sure there's nothing too untoward going on. She's certainly not acting ill, she's running around like a mad thing, as usual!
Penny's been to the vets, he's basically said to keep an eye on her - not much help really, although did put my mind at rest that there's nothing terrible going on. No idea as to any pups or whether she may be losing them or anything else really. May take her for a scan in a week or so!
