I'm at my witts end, my 3 yr old bullmastiff eats her own poo, its soo gross, she's done it ever since i've had her. There's no reason for it, been to the vets added various things to her food, but we have to do the sniff test after she's been out as she is head height with our 4 yr old kiddie, & i cant watch her going to the loo all the time, it's just plain dirty. Has anyone else had this problem, i'm thinking about rehomeing her, i've put up with it for so long & my dog trainer said some dogs just do it, i've tried baiting it, then she'll go eat someone elses, it's just when you've got kids you have to think of the germ side of things.

Many of us are expert in the field of poo eating, what I mean is owners of expert poo eaters :(

I have the pleasure of owning two stunning poo eaters, I have tried adding 'things' to their diet, always being armed with a shovel, keeping them on a lead, carrying treats more delightful than a turd, even considered feeding them a diet so lacking in nutrition so as to reduce the goodness of what passed out of them :-D, even thought of starving them :eek, never thought of re-homing them though :(

I've given up now, they're healthy and happy so what's a turd between loved ones.

Now as for your little one, that is a bit of a concern, it's all very well keeping your own dog well wormed etc but obviously you can't be sure of other owners and as your BM enjoys the delights of other dogs poo this could be a worry.

I think your plan would have to be teach the little one that 'doggy MUST NOT KISS YOUR MOUTH'. You will have to train the child as the dog is acting naturally.

yeh sproggy knows not to let bm lick her face, but it's the belchy poo burps that are gross to, she's also eaten so much that she's been sick in the house, not very often but even still it's grim when you've got kids, my other to dogs are quite normal, i just dont get it

I read somwhere put some raw chopped liver on the food.Its supposed to make the poo taste unexceptable.It might work it stopped my friends standard poodle.

you chose to take on this dog when you had kids and it is equally your responsibility. rehoming for that kind of problem is ridiculous! its your job to teach her that a behaviour is unacceptable, how is she to know if you don't tell her?  it's entirely possible to be there every time a dog poos and prevent it from eating it- how about toileting her on lead?

i have a few poo eaters here too
our children know no too let the dogs lick there faces their command is "no lick" and the dogs stop sometimes even before they try to do it

give your little one a command to teach the dog not too do it

i wouldn't rehome any off my lot because of poo eating either and i have tried them with everything i can think of they just go back and to doing it its gross!!

I'd try carrying a bottle of spray deterrent(containing Bitrex)with you,watch her like a hawk,when she goes spray the turd straight away,that might be enough to put her off.You could also try a remote spray collar on her.
I know its a slightly different problem but my papillon often eats horse poo when she's at her agility class and the Bitrex spray has worked very well with that.

How about muzzleing her when she is out on walks ? I have lived with 2 poo eaters and like others found no cure anybodies poo will do , then we move on to rolling in it !!!
Admittly it wasn't to the point of being sick just a tasty snack ! I cleaned her teeth with a bit of minty tooth paste  on my finger if it was too bad  or a occasionally a small mint as a breath fresherner Nothing to much didnt want to end up with a tooth problem. and defo no kisses yuk!! You could also use pepermint capsules from health food shop. I know this is only damage limitation but far better then rehoming

ya thats a hard one- My one girl doesn't eat her own but waits there to grab as soon as another is finishing- have to really watch her... I don't no why she does this and she is the only one outta my crew that does- been 81/2yrs and she is still very much a poo muncher I have tried everything with her as well.... Some just never stop no matter what you do eeeeeeeeew...

hi thanks for all your advice, thought it was just my dog lol! it's not the actual eating it thats the prob, she drags & carries it about & when we put her out if its dark you cant see, just tends to dump it all over the patio, it's quite unpleasent, i know people say watch her, but you cant every minute.
